What did you do to your bike today?

I marked everything so I looked at the old 1st over rings and they're good, the topside lettering is still visible too so I can't put them in upside down.
Top and 2nd ring gaps in honed cylinders is 0.018" to 0.022", service limit 0.039".
Oil rails are 0.030 to 0.035" and the service limit is 0.059".
Shave and a haircut, two bits!Leave a comment:

Not much to load, really:
Tent
bag
air mattress (maybe)
clothes
solar lantern
Packtalk
Miscellaneous stuff
I've fitted it on the bike already just to be sure it works now instead of the night before.

Yes, the classic Colombo line! You named that bike extremely appropriately.Leave a comment:

Bummer...... now I can hear the XJ gettin' warmed up from here, ready to pack a load for the LD ride and rally....whatever that load that may beToday I soaked the 'new' pistons I got from Andreas in de-carb juice and checked the piston ring end gaps in the jugs for my '80G.
I have the wrong rings.
The STD end gaps were over 0.040" so I pulled a piston out of the solution, scrubbed it clean and it has a "25" stamped on top. I measured it and it's about 71.75 mm so the pistons and jugs are 1st oversize.
I really should have checked before I bought the rings but now I have spares.

How's it going, Garth!
I don't remember... I thought I had 1st over rings and they turned out to be 4th over. That's what started this whole ringing thing when I did a rebuild right before going to Colorado that year.Leave a comment:

I seem to remember giving you a set of 1st oversized rings ?Today I soaked the 'new' pistons I got from Andreas in de-carb juice and checked the piston ring end gaps in the jugs for my '80G.
