Anyone in SoCal that you would recommend putting a bike together? I have a new job and travel too much to do anything.

I wish you luck, but I wouldn't have anyone assemble my bike for me. There's too much at stake to trust someone else's fumble-fingers and lack of knowledge about these classic machines. It may take longer, but I'd suggest working on it whenever you have a few extra minutes. You'll have much more pride in the finished product that way too.

I believe there are a couple of guys on the board who would do it for a fee. When I was struggling with my replacement engine an offer was made to get it working for a fee.

Guess again Catatonic......met and talked with some of the Cali and Nevada guys at the rally last year. Some areas of expertise they're sharper than I.........and that's comin' from someone who's no slouch when it comes to mechanical and electrical diagnosis and repaires on anything that's self propelled......just sayin'.

I was referring to the professional mechanic that one might find at a local bike shop. I truly agree that many of the folks on this site would be well suited and trustworthy to do the job right. Of course, if it was my choice, I would still do the work myself, simply to be able to say I did it, and to learn from the experience. That's just personal preference though.

              Heyyy...I resemble that remark!

Seriously, tho I had a similar situation. Bought an unrideable XS cause I wanted it. Then with the job, the volunteer work, and the women in my life I didn't have time to f*rt and smell it. The XS sat in the storage unit for over a year and a half before I got rid of all the unnecessary distractions and was able to start wrenching.

I felt like a monkey who had grabbed on to a banana in a mason jar: couldn't get the banana out but wouldn't release my grip either. Seemed pretty silly at the time but now I know I made the right call.

For you?? How long has it been since you became the legal owner/possessor of the title.? If it's longer than two years then I'd say it's time to take a chance on letting another member here who has the proven skills make himself useful by taking on an additional project. Strangely enough some of us do buy an additional bike to occupy our attention.

If it's less than two years then my call is to hold on and get life wrangled down where you have the personal time to do what you want to do when you want to do it. This includes tinkering with a superbike in a state of disassembly. It's an investment/time management strategy.

              Shop Time: $75.00 Hour
Choosing to do the work yourself in your own time/way: Priceless

If you truly can't find the time then looking in this site is way better than putting an ad out on CraigsList for the same thing.

                Call 3Phase

Hi, you can send a message to either 3Phase, or Planedick. Both have torn these bikes apart and rebuilt them. Both are excellent mechanics with a lot of xs experience. Both are within an hour or so of you. All I can suggest is give them a fair price, which would be tons cheaper than finding a local shop and see who wants the job. Both have contacts for parts if needed also. Good luck,,,,Mike in S.Diego

                  Hi Gene,
I'm retired with squat-all to do until spring, I'm sure we could agree on a price but the shipping to and from Saskatoon and the hassles at the border would kill the deal.

                    Whoah

                    Welcome back, Gene.

Is it the bike you dedicated to your father? How did the polish/powder coat on the final drive and other parts along with the plating turn out?

These bikes are pretty easy to put together, are you sure you need someone else to do it for you, not just help?

                    Regards,

                    Scott

                      I can

Putting a bike together is within the scope of my experience and being semi retired, I have the time and facilities. I repair and maintain a few other bikes for neighbors and friends. Honda, Yammies, and Suzys. The only bike I will turn away is a HD. LOL If you can get the components here it shouldn't take long at all. Deffinately ready for the riding season and you will love my rates.
