  • Forecast says petcocks ON :-)

It's suppose to be 3 degrees in these parts on Saturday so I think I'll the , install the batteries, turn the petcocks on and fire the bikes up for the first time since late last fall. I'm looking forward to hearing them run.

Forecast is for 6 degrees on sunday so I am thinking maybe mine will be running that day. I may even be able to get to the cleared streets for a short slow ride. It's been like the olympics weather around here the past few days and a lot of pavement is clear.

        Gee, Guys... I dunno...

It's only gonna get up to 45 around Tulsa tomorrow... and with a 20% chance of showers....

I dunno... it might be too cold & wet to ride....

I'll have to wait & see...

Round here it will finally get above freezing, but onyl during the day. Which means the foot or so of snow lying about will thaw and run across the roads, then refreeze at night. Not sure I want to find out the hard way that water looking stuff is still frozen. But I REALLY would liek to take the Banshee out for a spin!

It will be 45 here today but it's only 28 right now.Frost on the roads,
so I have to take the cage to work.
I did get a short ride in after work yesterday though.
Canada is beautiful up there but you guys sure get a short riding season,
even compared to the NW US.

Its great to see you guys pushing hard to get them back out. I should be finishing up the brakes this wknd - then big maint. is done. I can't get it out of my shed - snow & ice all over still etc. I'm going for around beginning of April - around here usually the roads are clear then - guys still ice fishin' though - now thats funny when you ride by them. Just this talk of local Ont dudes getting ready is exciting. - Dan

This post is from another website to a new owner who said he wanted to start his new Raider each week during the cold winter. Is it correct info or no?

You may get differing opinions on this, but starting the bike once a week is doing more harm than good. Starting a cold engine causes the most wear and not allowing the engine to come up to the operating temperature that occurs when you actually ride the bike doesn't allow for condensation to be removed from the oil, etc.
You are much better off to stabilize the gas, run until it is in the system, top off the tank to prevent condensation and rust, put the bike on a battery tender, and cover the bike up. Don't bother starting it up until you can actually go for a ride. All you're doing is making noise in the garage...

I'm lucky so my bikes are stored I a heated garage that sits at about 68* F. all winter. It goes without saying that if your going to start up any engine in cold weather you should let it run until it is hot before shutting it down.

I agree that if you start it up it needs to warm up thoroughly so the bike runs
normally for a bit without the choke/enricher.Otherwise doing this a few times could foul the plugs.
I start mine up every week or two to circulate the oil and charge the battery.I don't know about the point of burning off the condensation, as it will have condensation all winter long if it sits in the cold without starting it.
I don't mind the noise personally.I enjoy it.
