    tarzan,

i could be way wrong, but i thought that the bike didn't generate enough power at idle to charge the battery, it would in fact run the battery down further. please let me know, just so i know which bit of info now stuck in my head is correct.

You are correct. With the OEM reg/rec unit, you don't get full charging until around 4000 RPM.

There is a much simpler answer, ride it for 20 mins or so instead of sitting with it idleing.

I got out for about 10 miles today. Just enough to fill the tank back up and get the engine nice and hot.

I rode down to a local bike museum today. About 30min each way. On my way back, I actually had to use my thinner summer gloves, it was so warm today! Almost 60º!

I talked with another anti-HD guy there who said he had ben riding for over 50 years (said he was over 70, but didn't look much over 50!) and had decided in he '80s that HD had lost it's glory, and he'd never own one again. He had already put 8k miles on his 2010 Triumph that he bought with $1000 of extras for only $13k. He and his buddy were rather impressed by my MNS parked at the curb.

Poprock and I went for a ride on Thursday. It was about 60 degrees once it warmed up. He was more comfortable behind that faring that I was with only a tiny windshield but it was a great ride. I did about 100 miles before getting home and I was chilled to the bone.

I'm ready to go again but Poprock's cam chain tensioner failed the next day and he's looking for valves again...

              Like Kat says...

...maybe I shouldn't mention it but I've been riding pretty much all winter off and on.

Snow and ice makes it a little difficult sometimes. I went for a little ride just last wednesday, 44 degrees but the roads were clear except for the occaisional patch of sand.

It was absolutely beautiful here in Georgia the last couple days. I finished up the colortuning, carb syn and other little things to get mine on the road and took it out today. Man what a blast! It ran so good I didn't want to park it, but my honey dew list was waiting. This xs11 is so much smoother running with less vibration than my old xs850. Supposed to be 65 and beautiful tomarrow, but it's my granddaughters 2nd birthday. Maybe I can get in a short ride between church and the birthday party

can't wait to get out. all the snow FINALLY melted off the roads....except in my addition, where they wait to plow until it has all turned to ice. i can hardly drive down the road without sliding in my car. but i did get the fuel out of the tank today, and i am going to sand it, and paint it and finish the pipes and have it running again soon! DGSXER, i think i found my leak, it isn't in the carbs after all, i think it is a bad fuel line (i hope) so when i pull them all completely and replace, i should be good to go! in like a month when the snow is gone!!

                        Hey 1st bike.....

....... saw a guy riding a chopper today that looked like it had a Honda Rebel 250 engine.

If it makes you feel any better.....IT WAS FREAKIN" PINK!

If I see it again I'll try to get a pic.

It would only be anything close to right if it was a girl riding that pink rebel chopper.
