    Just to be a bitch

Did 260 ks today (160 miles) wearing jeans and flannel shirt (sleeves down). Left from Albury, went nearly to Mt Beauty, turned right and did the twisties over Tawonga Gap (signposted from 12 to 35 mph). Had couple of cold ones and pizza at tourist town called Bright (lots of moving scenery while eating) then headed towards home and had dessert at Yackandandah (more scenery), then home. 85f at moment, singlet, shorts and cold drink, another week till work starts again, BUGGER

Actually I kinda like the down time. It gives me a chance to make sure everything is working and looking the way it should. When it's time to ride everything is done and I don't have to worry about carbs, electrical gremlins, maintenance or cleaning all the hard to get areas that get neglected over the riding season. Although off season last a bit toooo long, I know it will be ready when it comes time to hit the start button and go.

I have the reverse problem. I do all my work in a carport. When it's below freezing, it's just too cold to stand there and do any kind of maintenance. I can put on my riding gear and enjoy the road when it's cold, but I can't do much work when I'm all bundled up.

Same here. Although it doesn't get as cold, the colder part of the year is when I can't get any significant work done because of the temps. So, spring and fall are my work times. I'll have to say when I was changing my engine in August it sure was nice how warm the concrete was when I tripped over one of my jacks and fell. My ankle is still a bit tender from that one. I did lay there for a while, it was so nice and warm down there.

Changing out motors isn't that tough, but it is a good idea to pay attention to detail. A beer or two is a good idea, but to get THAT drunk... probably not a good idea.

Not drunk, just distracted. Remember that engine swap took me 3 weeks to get it running, all because I needed to swap 2 wires to the coils. I won't be caught by that one again.

I rode about 50-60 miles on the Oregon coast yesterday. Temps in the low 50s. Fairing and lowers makes it nice. Just got back from a month in OK & KS, where chill factors were in the negative numbers. I forgot how much that hurts. Sposed to be kinda sunny Sunday. I'll ride if it is.

                    I have the same problem

But it is my own fault. If I didn't have so much in the shop I could work in comfort instead of freezing my butt off in the carport. It is nice to have just about every tool known to man in the shop so I guess you have to trade something off.

Well heck... if the motor wasn't the problem, now that you have practice, swap the original back in again!

No, that motor was bad, and this one has a mid range and above rattle once fully warm. Since I finally found an engine and frame that's coming next week, I figure I will check that engine out really well and swap it in when things warm up in the spring. This one seems fine mostly, I'm just concerned with some of the little noises that I'm sure I wouldn't even notice without a fairing. It doesn't use oil or anything like that, but then with these old machines you can't really have too many spare engines just in case. I just need a trailer to carry the spare and the tools to change it along with me on trips.
