I would like someone to fill thier bathroom sink with a couple of inches of water and then pull the plug and see which way the water spirals down the drain. Clockwise or counterclockwise. And then tell me.

When my ship crossed the equator back in 78 I tried that, and it does drain backwards, or clockwise. -

Coriolis effect
The water will drain clockwise, north of the equator and counterclockwise south of the equator due to the Coriolis Effect. On the Equator the water will drain either way. If the Earth was to stop rotation there would be no Coriolis Effect. The major currents in the Oceans will follow the same directional rotations also due to this rotationally induced effect. You know, IIRC many toilets are designed to actually force the water to swirl. That would entail a specific direction, since the swirl is done to help cleaning of the bowl when you flush. Most sinks just swirl the way the water wants to go rather than pushing it in a specific direction.Cy
