Ok, I guess I do need rain pants

I left for work this morning, and since it was just barely sprinkling, and I go a short distance I figured I was fine. Well, yeah, mostly. Seems these things throw up a lot of water off the front tire, and that does have the unfortunate effect of making the lower leg waterlogged. And I found that having a hole in the bottom of the ignition cover is NOT a good thing.

So this weekend I'm going to take it off, clean it up and use JB-Weld and an aluminum can to patch the hole (I'll replace the cover later) so that it's at least waterproof.

Cycle gear up near Roseville (you can see it off 80, next to the old jet that was on a pole), IIRC, has a good selection of rain gear. I use the two part pants/jacket system. I paid about $45 for them three years ago! Just the pants will keep you dry in most storms. Add the jacket and some overboots and you can ride all day and stay dry!

Think you just had a bad rain day.

I use Bones daily, and dont worry about the weather. I have a leather padded bikers jacket and my colour (Also leather with all my patches and badges on) over that. In rainy weather, only the top of my legs get wet, and in bad weather, my ass and the whole front of my pants.

I must add that when it rains in South Africa it doesn't play, and bikes normally slow down to about 100km per hour when the rain hits.

If you wrote you need wiper blades for your helmet, I would have agreed with you, but rain suite pants...... not on the top of my list.

You need to remember the rain here is at about 5C to 10C, not 20C. You DO get COLD in the rain here!!

Agreed though.. don't want a wet front OR "back".. but the WORST for me is wet feet! Seems like most of the things I've tried, even though they say "rainproof", it usually means rain resistant is all. I haven't found many things that can take 70mph wind driven rain for very long, including gloves, boots, or coats.

I have been through several sets of rain pants, and the ones I found that work well for quite a while are at Bass Pro Shops. I'm thinking the brand is RedHead. Bob Falter told me about him and they worked well for him also. They say they're fishing pants... just that nylon type material, but they come in a little carrying pouch a little bigger than a hot dog and are $20. Most other stuff tore up after a good long ride, and these lasted a season before they started to finally leak. They also have snaps at the bottom to keep them secure around your boots. Since I ride with a fairing, I mainly get hit from the knees down. Without the pants or covers of some sort, the rain soaks my pants and runs down into my boots. Remember that part I said about wet feet? lol.
