Just wanted to say that in the summer I am taking a leave of absence from work and doing the four corners of the States. I am taking my time and traveling poorly... using the net to meet people and find places to stay. sleeping at waysides, etc. I have done WI to NV and back a few years ago and I averaged 500 miles per day. This trip I am going to start off attempting an iron butt challenge but then I plan on taking it a little easier after that... maybe 350-500 miles per day. I really don't have a plan in mind... whenever I get tired or bored I will come back... might take a few weeks, might take a few months.

If your are travelling long distances you may want to check into this. I have not used one yet but will be putting it on the bike next season.

        going long

I've taken trips over 1000 miles on a XS650. In comparison, my XS1100 is a worthy road bike I can ride long hours. You will appreciate your small tank. After a while, any excuse to get off is a good one. It also affords opportunities to meet people. I find I can ride sun up to sun down if I make enough stops. I often make separate stops for gas, food, and bathroom breaks.

Depending on your route, a spare fuel can is good insurance.
