I am thinking about getting a set of tubeless wheels for my '78 1100. With the rim locks, I flat repair on the roadside is next to impossible. Anyone know what year yamaha went to tubeless rims on the 1100 standards?

Hi Deny,
I have gotten away with putting tubeless tires on XS series cast wheels that did not have the "for use with tubeless tires" legend stamped on them.
The rim configuration did not change but if you are worried about air leaking through casting porosities, give the tire well a few coats of epoxy paint.

The tubeless tires started showing up in Canada on late production 1978 models. It appears to have been a split across that year. My original 1978 model came off the showroom floor with tubeless tire rims.

Fred,
How did you deal with the bead locks?

Denny,
Some people have put stove bolts in the holes, others have used other methods to seal them up. I would tap the hole, screw in a set screw with sealant on the threads and call it done. You could put some sealant over the screw from the inside of the rim, just as a second seal.

Thanks Again! Never thought of it from that angle.
