  • How do you prefer to ride

Alone, with another, or with a group.

I find myself riding alone most the time. Other than that occasionally with a new yamaha cruiser or a guy with a sportster. I need to meet other vintage riders. I really dont mind riding alone, I just worry about breaking down. But then I dont need other people so much.

I tried to do a poll but I fail.

I ride alone mosty. My friends with Harleys seem kinda embarrassed to be seen riding with a ricer, but that's Ok because I've probably got less into the okie SPECIAL (and own it outright) than they'll be making in payments during the time it's too cold to ride. And, I have just as much fun

I've got a much younger friend with a zipsplat ( I stole that ) I haven't had the opportunity to ride with yet. Although I am looking forward to riding with him, I think my riding style will probably bore him.

I don't like to have to keep up with someone, or wait for someone. Some people want you to ride right next to them, the "buddy system". That makes me uncomfortable.

If I need to dive left or right, or if I screw up and crash, I don't need the extra worry of possibly taking them out.

        Hmmm, pretty selfish huh?

The majority of my rides are solitary..and occaisonally with one to three others....then a couple times a year i do a large group ride like the XSeast rally or the ST-Owners events. While XSeast rides are typically one real large group(30+ last year) ST-Owners will break the riders into smaller groups of no more than 7 no matter how many bikes are in attendance...all groups ride the same route but are time staggered to prevent overcrowding.

I have met over a dozen of the guys from UJM and they are OK in my book.I mess with them a lot since they ride Suzuki's...gotta keep them on their toes Glad to see ya at the other place..we need more 1100 riders there..

But to answer the orginal question..I usually ride alone and prefere it that way cause I will stop and turn around and take a picture of something I saw out of the corner of my eye with no warning..like this...

If ya wanna meet other vintage bike riders..8trackmind knows of some groups in your area..all brand or start a local XS1100 group

90% of the time I ride alone. Most people I've ridden with don't like my semi aggressive riding style. How ever there is a group I ride with 1st Sunday of each month that ride safe aggressive and 300-400 miles with only fuel stops every 100 miles and 1/2 way for lunch.

ride ... ride like the wind ... to be free agin ...

when I ride out I don’t know where I’m going
I only remember where I’ve been
start out late at night and ride to see a new day begin
stop at the cliffs over the sea to hear the wind moaning
I ride thru the mists and fogs of early morning

I had a kindred soul ride pillion for some years
to share my ride and experience the wonders we would see
to be as one as only two can be
joy and laughter so great as to bring you to tears

sharing her warmth on a cold damp night
as we cruised away miles to see what’s around the next bend
from the top of a mountain or see the mist swirl in a glen
to watch the stars disappear with the coming of the light

the riding I like best now is done alone
following what direction feels right at the time
the next cross road looks real fine
for a too short time I feel bad to the bone

the world shrinks to the twisting black snake
sparks fly out like shooting stars from the pegs
seeing the route in my mind to shalom the next leg
pushing the bike as hard as the black top will take

which may change as the next cross road nears
sometimes it’s a short ride thru the hills around the bay
Or out to the coast for a three hundred mile day
and thoughts of those who have moved on, are not really gone
if you hold their memory dear

Riding around town for work is always by myself and just transportation. When riding for pleasure I prefer company. Luckily there are a few xsives around who are usually up for a ride. I managed to get take 6 out of town trips this year (including 2 rallies). The best is a small group of friends that I am lucky enough to get to ride with. Our riding styles are similar and we know what to expect of each other.

Never alone, too many cars in the way .
I don't mind occasional group rides but I prefer the solo thing.

I ride with my son, and a nephew on occasion. Most of the time I prefere to ride alone or with my better half on back. I tend to run faster then they do. 55 or 60 mph just don't turn me on.

How do I ride? Early and often! Alone, except when I'm with somebody. Small groups are better than large usually. However, I've been on a group ride or two with 6 to 12 riders and with an XSellent leader we all had a good time. Even with just 2 bikes, the riders need to know what to expect from each other. With an old bike like mine, it's good to ride with someone on a newer bike, 'cause the newer bike broke down and I had to give him a ride home.

I'll ride alone or with somebody. It doesn't matter.I suppose I like riding with one or two other people best.
I went on a couple huge group rides this summer. One had between 250 - 300 riders.I didn't care much for that.Too many bikes.I like at least a 2 second cushion in front and behind and it seems there are always a few people who like to bunch up,so the stagger gets a little too close for comfort.
