If I am understanding this correctly, these cartridge emulators are merely spring loaded check valves in which you adjust the amount of pressure it takes to open the check, so the suspension acts normal until it hits a hard jounce, in which case the check opens and lets the oil bypass the dampening orifice allowing the suspension to absorb hard jounce but remain firm under normal riding.
Sound about right?

That's pretty much it. The RaceTech's do allow you to adjust both compression and rebound damping semi-independently by changing springs, etc.

How good can you actually make an old set of forks? Sure, you can get the up and down adjusted, but the problem with these old forks is the flex sideways. A fork brace HELPS, but doesn't cure the problem completely.

It just seems to me that the better fix would be better forks off of a newer bike?

hey i am looking to d othis as well... i have also read they work well with progressive springs... also i tohught you still need to use the 10w oil... when you enter the info for the xs11 on the racetech site they show you using 20w oil...???

Great product, although a bit expensive IMO. I've ran these on other bikes with very good results. Their main claim to fame is the complete ajustability, as you can tune them to your weight and riding style. But they are a real PITA to adjust if you're trying to get every last bit out of them, as you have to remove them to adjust. So it's pull the fork caps, springs (getting oil everywhere), fish them out with a long wire, adjust, then reverse to install.

They do come with very comprehensive instructions and they'll give you a pretty good 'baseline' setup, so you may not feel the need to fine tune them. I would not recommend the RaceTech springs however, as they only sell 'straight rate' springs and these can be harsh in 'normal' riding. The Progressive springs work well with these. I did find that if using the Progressive springs, using RaceTech's spring pre-load instructions for the spacers gave the best results.

Hi Elevener,
I know of 2 who have them fitted to the xs and are
really happy with the emulators once theyve been set up
correctly. Unfortunately they dont come on here anymore,
they do visit the uk site so you might be able to get some more
info there, if you cant get any more from here.
Are you heading out to the expo? looks like you could get some good info from there.
