  • Question for Internet Guru's??

    Hey folks,

I've been contacted by a new member with 9 posts that he's not been able to access XS11.com lately, the last week. I then got an email today from DGXser...guru, etc., that he also has not been able to access the site. The first one uses Comcast.net out of Olympia, Wa., the other Cinci.RR.com ISP I assume out of the Cincinatti area, so it doesn't appear to be a regional internet thing???

I helped the Comcast fellow to revert back to IE7 due to the buggyness of IE8, Cleared/deleted his browser files, cookies, passwords, etc. Had him check his Browser Internet Security settings...to Med-High, verified that XS11.com wasn't amongst the Restricted sites, WAS amongst the sites permitted by the popup blocker. All of this was to no avail! His internet service works, he can go to Google and such, types in the URL for XS11.com, or types in the URL directly into the browser, it shows the progress bar for 15-30 seconds, then times out with unable to display web page!?!?

I've verified that his IP addy was NOT in the range of the IP's that are BANNED by the site, same for his email addy/ISP. I'm at a loss as to what else to tell him besides possibly calling/contacting his ISP to make sure that there isn't something wrong on their end!?

    Any other suggestions???????

Can they ping the xs11.com IP address? Open a command prompt, and have them ping 209.151.72.16

That will tell you if they can get to the website at all. If they cannot, their ISP is blocking it for some reason.

I am using comcast.net .I obviously can access the site.I have had trouble with the site lately being slow. And one day last week it took a while to process and let me on.Then every time I tried to view a post it would hang for a bit.
Even now when I logged on the front page came in slowly.

I think this has been the case for everyone lately. The server that the site resides on seems to be responding slowly, or the host's ISP is running a little slow. However, as slow as it has been, the site hasn't been inaccessible in the last several days.

After the ping, have them type in "Tracert" in the dos box. This command will show you the path a packet of information takes from your computer to one you specify. It will list all the routers it passes through until it reaches its destination, or fails to and is discarded. In addition to this, it will tell you how long each 'hop' from router to router takes. If your having connection problems this info is really useful to your isp so they can see where the connection is slowing down or dropping off.

www.speedtest.net is also useful for determining connection speeds.

There's been MULTIPLE times in the last few days that I haven't been able to get on at all for extended periods.

I've had no trouble getting here but I have noticed that navigating around the site seems a little slower than usual. So it seems to me it might be the site's server is a little too busy.

                          Hi, T.C. ,

I've always been able to get on, but this week I'm noticing that the login box on the main page doesn't appear for a couple of minutes, only the text that reads "Login Form"...then the box will come up and it's ok from there...???

I would also have him try to navigate to the site through IE via IP address of the site. If that works with no issues, I'd say the problem lies somewhere in his ISP's DNS tables.

I have noticed some slowness of the site from time to time over the last week or so but it's intermittent and has been good the last couple of days or so.

Check with the host site for the forum, and see if THEY have had hardware issues! If they had to replace any equipment, it can take a while for everything on the net to catch back up. Routing tables in LARGE routers can take up to 24 hours to fully repopulate. If you have two or more large routers go down "near" the host site, it could be problems!
