Flatlander, does it show you a track of where you have been and let you put in way points? I never thought it did from what I have read.

Chuckster, I’m guessing those GPS’s are the Garmin Zumo. Check out these links:

Zumo’s are not within a frugal person’s (TA’s) budget, so that leaves me out.

Yes it does show you were you have been and allows you to "hide" were you have been. Even if you are in the "hide" mode while using it, it still keeps the route.
Yes it does let you puy in "Via Points".
I had it in the boat tonight. Tested the slow feature, no anchor, with a slight breeze it registered 0.3-0.6 mph. 111deg. heading.
I did some research on portable gps units and for what I wanted to do (Motorcycle, Boat, Snowmobile, Hike, Off Road) this is one that I personally picked and when I went to purchase it, I asked for a recommendation of a gps unit that would fit my wants and this is the one he recommened......so I bought it and really like it. It's not too complicated to use, still has nice features, it's compact (fits in a shirt pocket) and waterproof.
On another note I have a question for the ones putting a bag over the non-waterproof ones. When the baggie is over the unit, how well does it work when its wet and you want to sellect something on the touch screen? I'm wondering if the baggie is touching it in other places, it may be tough to select some of the things you want on the screen? If this dosen't effect it much I'm going to suggest it to others I know then. Thanks

I've never tried messing with mine inside the ziplock or the tank bag. Most of the time, I know where I'm going except for right at the end, or certain tricky change of highways or something in the city. The main purpose of mine is honestly as a speedometer, and that just takes a glance every now and then. The other major thing I use it for is the trip estimater.. telling you your approximate arrival time to your destination. I can see both of these just fine from behind the ziplock, behind the tank bag plastic.

As far as turning it up loud enough to hear the directions... I had enough of people that griped at me telling me what to do in the military. When I get to missing it, SWMBO will refresh my memory for me. I especially hated that b!tch constantly telling me to turn around when I knew where the heck I was going! (Talking about the gal voice on the GPS.. not SWMBO) I've heard you can download a Homer Simpson voice though... might be up for some of that. Whenever you pass a bar the GPS says, "Mmmmmm.. Beer!"

At work, I have to drive way out in the country sometimes back on some remote dirt road that they are building a bridge on. Kinda fun to turn the thing on and take different dirt roads back home and not worry about getting lost.

Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

Flatlander, thanks for the info. It looks like it will be worth the extra $100.
