Nice to see a fine rig like that! You mentioned the fuseblock was melted! I would also check out the three white plugs behind the fusepanel backplate!! With all of those lights on the bags and such, it's probably sucking what little life there is in the charging system!

I would highly suggest looking into replacement LED bulbs for all of those lights if you don't want to be replacing your Reg/Rect every few months!! Also, once you get the fuseblock changed out, be sure to check out the charging capacity to make sure it's charging properly. If not, aside from the diagnostics, you would probably want to contact Geezer...he's in your neck of the country, and pick up a new stonger Reg/Rect!!

The reason it melted, is the doofus who had it before me blew a fuse, instead of replacing the fuse, he wrapped it in tin foil. The only part thats melted is around the tinfoil fuse. I can understand wrapping it in an emergency, but he ran it like that permanently!

All the extra lights are now wired into a kill switch, so thats all good. Gonna stick a voltage meter on there when my new fusebox arrives (thanks to TC). Ive been thinking about swapping to LED's. My Ebay'd ignition/gascap/helmet lock package arrived yesterday, so ill be fitting those next week.

      Welcome on board!

I also have a "79sf. I'm the 3rd owner, previous 2 didn't appreciate what they had, so someone let it set out in the weather. I bought it with 28,000 miles on the clock: has 104+ thousand now. Yeah, I've done some maintainance stuff, but nothing really major. I've had a dozen bikes since I started riding and this is the best! Welcome to the club. Hope to meet you sometime!

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
      I've been riding since 1959.

speedo arrived this morning, managed to get a couple of decent condition side covers (with badges still on) for 50$ on ebay, which also arrived this morning.

Time to start putting this beast back together.
