  • Cam chain adjustment

I looked at the owners manual and it says occasionaly this must be tightened. Give me an idea, since I just got this bike should i tighten it. I believe I hear a chainish sound at higher RPM'S.

    Thanks

Take off the timing cover (left side)and turn the engine clockwise to the "C" mark . Maybe a full revolution first .Loosen the lock nut and back out the bolt on the front of the engine . The big spring inside should do the adjusting for you . Lightly tighten the bolt and the locknut . Did I forget anything ?

      Axel covered it pretty well...

But, if I may add a word of caution... search a few recent threads here about this before you do it. Most times, it works fine & is necessary.

      But...Sometimes it can be disasterous...
Read the thread... "Got defeated this weekend" by Trbig...

The owner, and fellow member, Bohn Frazer is VERY knowledgable, and this wasn't his first rodeo by any means. Followed it to the letter... only to wind up w/ bent intake valves because the tensioner failed to work correctly.
Trbig knows these bikes inside & out... literally.

Just use your best judgement and a whole lot of caution.

Most of the time, the cam chain will be loudest at idle, if it needs adjustment.

Be careful on the bolt and lock nut, they strip very easily.
