  • Moto Retro Illustrated magazine asks...

    Hey everyone

Just wanted to say hi and (hopefully) generate some contacts for an XS11 story I'd like to do in a future issue of Moto Retro Illustrated, my new vintage magazine.

Not sure how many of you saw or heard about Motorcyclist Retro, the magazine I edited for a big publisher last year. We did three issues before the pub pulled the plug due to economic reasons (their own, not the magazine's). Each issue of Retro sold 20,000 plus last year, which is why I've taken my concept private and am publishing a very similar magazine called Moto Retro Illustrated.

To give you an idea of the sort of stuff we're covering, issue one features Eddie Lawson on the cover with his personal ELR. Basically we're covering streetbikes, dirtbikes and minis of the late 60s, 70s and early 80s. Other stories include Honda's CB750 on Route 66, Wes Cooley and his Yosh GS1000S Superbike, a piece on American Honda's 50th anniversary in the US, Yamaha's first monoshock motocrosser, a piece on Tom White's vintage motocross museum, a piece on Darryl Bassani, Hodaka's Super Rat, Jeff Ward and a lot more. Issue one is at the printer now, and I hope some of you will check it out.

I'm doing some research on the XS11, and figured I'd be able to make some solid contacts here re: tech and history.

Anyway, just wanted to touch base. Feel free to get me here or at my email: mcretro@cox.net.

    Thanks!

    Mitch

Is this the Mitch Boehm of Motorcyclist? Welcome! We don't see much written in magazine industry about the XS. You have, as others wrote, come to the mecca of all things XS and many of us will go out of our way to help spread the word about these fine machines. You got your Wingnuts and your Hognuts, but the XSives are a breed apart. Using these antique machines as everyday riders gives new meaning to the term "one per center". As in only one percent would be wacky enough to even attempt it, not to mention some of the guys here have done some wild things like chain drives, bobbers, big bores and turbos. Take a few days to browse the site, I'm sure you'll find everything you need.

And I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say we wish you success with the new mag.

Mitchell, if you want photos of the XS1100's, both Standards and the Special, plus some sweet XJ's, these folks in here should have plenty. I'm often awed at how many of these owners have their bikes looking like they just came out of the crate.

XS11lover's bobber is simply amazing if you want to see a Special turned bobber. I've seen other outstanding bobbers in here as well.

Then you can always show the bikes from Europe, Australia, etc. I've noticed how they've got a unique look to them.

Stripped down or fully dressed, stock or customized, these folks have it all.

                    Good luck with your mag.

Thanks DJ, now I feel bad for ripping your Raider. My Bobber's nothing special or amazing, it just has Ole's beautiful paint work.
Don, maybe you should do a story on one of Pat Olson's bikes.
