  • Vindication at last!

So about a year and a half ago I was on my way home late one evening. I was chugging along about 70 mph when I came up on a guy riding a Harley Wide Glide. He was doing about 55 and I just rolled past him. I guess he thought I wanted to run or something. I wasn't paying any attention to him until he came screaming past me at something like 100 mph. The way he did it pissed me off, so I nailed the throttle - and the clutch started slipping. I still managed to catch him before his exit, but that wasn't what I wanted to do . I made a solemn vow right then and there that it wouldn't happen again.

So tonight I'm riding home, and a similar situation occurred. Past a Harley in pretty much the same way, only this time I kept an eye on him. Sure enough he acted like he had something to prove. I down shifted two gears (man I love that 750 FD ) and nailed it. He started fading bad around 110, but I kept pushing past 130 as he got smaller and smaller in my mirrors. He gave up, which is as it should be. Man that felt good. I guess now I'll have to go out and put another notch in my tail pipe .
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

A year and a half?? Man, I get that crap almost weekly here during the nice warm fuzzy season when the wanna-be riders are finally out with their bikes. They buy the big loud V-twins because.. you know.. it makes their manhood larger the louder they are.

Poor guy.. probably so deflated now, he won't be any good to his wife. Way to go ya bully...

Like I said.. don't tell me.. post to the others about it!! Hell.. you were the guinea pig.. run with it man!

What I would like you to do is measure that one.. from the gasket surface out.. to see if XJ owners can use that one since we can't use the FJ adjuster.

Sorry.. way off topic here. But that's just me... lol.

Guys that ride Harleys like they got something to prove don't have wives. They left to be with guys that have a little thing more commonly referred to as "masculinity". When those men have parts that are big enough, they saddle up on an XS11. When they are truly exceptional, they follow TRBig around in Arkansas on a worn out D404.

Tod - I'll put a measuring device on it tomorrow. Just looking at it I think it may be slightly shorter than the FJ unit. I did notice one drop of oil near the bottom of the flange, but that may have been left over from what runs out when you remove a tensioner. I'll have to clean it up and check it again. If it did leak, it isn't anything a little gasket sealer won't fix.

Ivan - glad to see you getting back to your old self .

                When they are truly exceptional....

Yeah, but with a broken pelvis, it's much like looking at a really nice XS11 in a museum. Something that SHOULD be ridden and enjoyed.. but instead, it just sits there while someone stares at it.

Oh, speaking of... tell your wife hello for us! lol.

LOL.. Although Knivan would imply you had tried to accomplish some form of trick. You didn't even approach any jumps or anything before you starting trying out for the "Best Flip" award... with the relying on of someone else for help actually doing the trick!

And moving right back on to topic.....

The guys on the sportys around here are the ones that think they rule the road. Some how, on matter how hard they work those V-twinge engines over, they just can't make them run with and XS. I have to remind them frequently, and with my injury, Trainzz is keeping the faith around here quite well.

I have to laugh at the guys on the portadynos that post numbers like 140ftlb/60hp. Sounds like numbers you would hear on a Massey Ferguson. I guess if I ever need a tow, I'll ask one of those guys, that is if they aren't too worried about scratching the chrome on their three point hitch....

I'd only accept it if they have PTO too, much safer than full time live.

Soooooooo... wouldn't that be more like... Knivan?
I love it! Good one Kat. Makes a good verb too, as in, "There I was minding my own business when WHAM! - I got knivaned!"

Tod - I measured the tensioner, and it's 1 96/100" measured from the bikes gasket surface to the end of the bolt.

As long as the big guns are looking at this I have a question regarding horsepower and torque. I always thought horsepower couldn't be measured, but torque can, and that horsepower was a function of torque. Consequently it never made sense to me how you could have torque increasing while horsepower decreases like in a comparison of a v-twin and an inline four of the same displacement. Maybe it has something to do with time/speed. Can someone explain this?
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
