Miles warned me that this one has a tendancy to squirrel a bit above 115.
Miles didn't take it up there very often, and some bikes WILL start to "have issues". I found on almost ALL of them it was NOT the fairing! My daily ride was getting REALLY bad, so I pulled the top clamp and repacked the steering stem bearings. Bike is rock solid once again, WITH A FAIRING. I've only had this one up to about 120, so I don't know about higher speed handling.

Not a problem, some like them and some don't. Personally I like them, but I can understand those that don't. On top of that, I personally feel the ride is better with than without, but again, it's a personal preference and if you don't like them then for you that is correct.

I do have to admit having ridden both dressed and naked (talking about a fairing here) that I have had more trouble in windy conditions WITHOUT a fairing than with. That said I have never ridden with a fork mounted fairing, only frame mounted ones.

I actually like the looks of the bikes naked. But after riding with one, I wouldn't want to be without. The difference in comfort is huge.

Very true. In my 20's, I felt anyone that had a fairing was a sissy, but in my 50's I kind of feel those who don't are just being foolish.

                Hi Cy,
I guess it takes all sorts. Now I'm in my 70s I feel that if I wanted to ride behind a windshield I'd take the Buick.

nothing to prove here either. Well, ,aube that I dont like the looks of a vetter. But I do have an 84 Venture in the works, so I sm not opposed to aestheticly pleasing fairings

I used to have a bolt on windshield. I used it for long trips only just due to hating the pain of rain riding! Otherwise, I enjoy the naked ride! Well....I enjoy riding my bike with no windshield or fairing to.

I'm old enough to not have to prove anything to anyone anymore. So that aint it. When I took my MSF course, it was kind of a feeling out stage for me to see if I would still have the love of riding after 20 years or if I was just missing something that would be over after I did it. Once I got to riding mor ethan 10 MPH on the course and opened up the shield on my helmet to let the wind blow, that was it, had to get a bike! For me, riding behind a windshield is only get half the experience. JMHO

them guys on tv eat bugs all the time, they look like the healthiest people I've seen in a long time. I recently went from a beanie/half helmet to an open face 3/4 helmet. It really sucks when bugs get stuck between my ears and the inside of the helmet.

I can see your point. If I want to really be behind a windshield I will take the Camaro, if I want and enjoyable 2 wheel ride without getting tired out too fast from the wind and such I'll take the XS11, if I really want the wind right in my face I'll take the XS400 which is naked. BTW, my windshield is sized to be about 3 inches below my line of site, so I get plenty of air into the face, or I can hunch just a little and get none. The main thing for me is to stop me from being a giant parachute (use wide guys do have to worry about that you know?)

                          Hi Cy,
I'm with Euclid who claimed that a sphere is the perfect shape. But as my shape becomes nearer to perfection I must admit that a sphere has poor aerodynamics.
However, if I was concerned about drag I could take the sidecar off the XS11 but then I'd never dare ride it. These days I'm even chicken to ride my XS650 and so my solo riding is limited to my 250cc BSA and that bike won't go fast enough to need a windshield.

                            My Take

Please take this as my opinion, not as a personal refutation to anyone here.

I am fully grown and capable of making my own decisions. I am insured more than I will ever need. I never ever take unneeded risks.

That being said, my philosophy is that where others tend to back up, I find my jumping off point. I like to go fast. I like it when some asshat blazes past me on his scooter, looking for a little fun. I alway try to be a gentleman and accommodate him/her. The fact he is often riding a V-twin..................
