Am looking for aftermarket cams for 850 project bike, used to be able to find link from XS11.com to site that listed 1100/850 cams. Can someone please advise of web adress or other site that can provide street cams?

        850 cAMS

Thanks for lead, however Megacycle only list 750, not 850.

Cams for the 750/850 SHOULD be the same! It's sort of like the part number difference between a '78 and '81 cam on the XS1100. They WILL both work, they just have a different part number because of the "grind".

            Cams

Looked up the sizes of the journals in my Haynes manual that covers 750/850, acording to it the 850 journals are 20 thou larger in diameter. Bugger

OK....novice mechanic question here. What makes one type of cam better than another. You are talking about the shaft, correct? Does it have to do with a more precise fit or maybe a higher quality steel? Just curious.

Last summer I had the enjoyment of replacing the head gasket myself and had the head all apart. Man, that was fun.

Send an email to them! it may be they want your old cams for a "core" anyway. If you don't ask, you'll never know if they will fit, or if they just don't "list" ALL the cams they do.

The difference is in the profile, or curve of the cam lobe. They are engineered to meet "smog" requirements buy Yamaha, but aftermarket cams have a little different height and duration to increase power at a certain RPM.

                    Cams

Thanks for suggestions, however if necessary to get stock cams reground, will get them done by company in Queensland who have excellent reputation. Between exchange rate at present and shipping two ways not worth sending o/s to get done. Had hoped that someone would have items in stock to save time and effort. Lazy eh

I sent my cams to APE. They are big on performance and some pretty nice guys. I have been dealing with Jeff. I will have to keep you posted.
