  • Star trek 2009 !

Let me be the first to recommend this movie to everyone here on Channel 11 !

I'm an old Star Trek fan from way back. I'll admit that although I was old enough to have seen the original series in it's original airing, I didn't! But I was with it during it's airings just a few years later.

I've seen some of the other series sequels....The Next Generation being about the only other one that I really liked or got into. They could have deep sixed DEEP SPACE NINE for all I cared. Voyager was a modest fun voyage, and Star Trek Enterprise with the spineless Scott Bakula was a big dissappointment!

SO....I had my doubts when I first heard that they were remaking the Star Trek franchise with new actors playing the classic character roles of the Original. But then I caught the trailers/previews, and was rather intrigued! I hadn't been paying much attention to it these past few months, so I was surprised to see that it was having it's debut this weekend.

Swmbo and the other women in my household aren't really into it, so my nephew and I had a guy's afternoon out today, and went to see it.
The reviews are right on, in that it's well paced, well written, has a few interesting plot twists in how it varies from the Original series storyline, but it's an acceptable alternative. It's 2 hours long, but doesn't feel like at. It was fun seeing how they fleshed out the characters, revealing them and their interactions and how they came to know each other and such. Depending on what you may have read in the papers and such, I don't want to give out any spoilers, but having know the storyline and episodes from the original series actually enhanced the enjoyment of the storyline in this movie.

SO...I highly recommend this movie to any and all Trekkies, and unless you are a total PURIST, I can guarantee you will enjoy this adventure.

Here's a screen shot of the techie spokeless motorcycle that the young but now adult James T. Kirk rides for just brief moment in the movie on Earth!! The image isn't as clear as it could be, I had to enlarge it to 200% to show the details a little better. IT looks like a real bike, not some CG stuff, because I remember seeing an episode of one of the bike/chopper build offs, and I can't remember him, but one of the builders designed one with the same spokeless wheel/rim technology!!

      I'm a Trekkie

Saw it. LOVED it. :-) Well written, well acted, and the special effects, down to that spokeless motorcycle, were right on ('cept that I remember Kirk having brown or hazel eyes...). I give it five out of four stars.

I saw it and thought it was very good. They did their homework and all the "This character better say this..." stuff was bullseyed.

I dunno if any of you watch SNL, but they had a blurb tonight about this flick with Nemoy and the new Kirk and Spock. I haven't seen this new film, but I have been a trekkie my whole life, and really look forward to seeing it. I'm glad to hear they did a good job sticking to the original story/character-line though.

Milking the Turkey (Stronger Than Dirt)

I'm a TOS (The Original Series) fan. That was fourty years ago and I'm going to skip this movie. I'm tired of Trek that isn't Trek; re-imagining and redefining TOS to get more money out of the franchise gets weaker and more condescending with virtually every spin-off TV series and almost every movie.

"Star Trek: Save the Whales!" was fun but by the eighth movie, "Star Trek: First Contact," Zephram Cochran looked exactly like "Jughead" from, "The Archies."
Warp drive was so lame and most of the cast was so old and fat that the moving starfield effect could only take them out to the moon instead of actually passing all of those stars shown outside of the window.

I might, maybe, watch the fourty-second re-release of the eDiscounted extra, extra, special directors and cast and relatives of the crew-cut committee cut on Blow-Ray. By that time the DMCA copy protection will have been eliminated and won't explode anything that tries to play it except the original machine. It might have most of the stuff that should have been in the movie when it was $hown in the theater$ and on all of the other relea$e$.

                  Regards,

                  Scott

Looks like the begining of a whole new series, since this groups reality has changed, so has their future.
My favorite was Bones, they made him a crotchety old bitch even as a young guy.
Speaking of crotchety ... where's my buddy Promepheus?

                      Hey Scott,

That's just it, this IS really TREK. It's not CAMPY, and the actors can really ACT unlike Shatner. It's just a more edgy, more realistic, Non-preachy version. They went to great lengths to find actors that look in many ways similar to TOS characters. They have many of the same "character"istics of TOS characters, like "Bones" hating technology and such, Kirk's chasing skirts ways, Chekov's russian slurred speech, etc.!

I think you're cheating yourself out of some "fun" entertainment here. Okay, if you want to hold out till the DVD, that's okay. I'll be sure to get it, possibly on BlueRay, but I can't make archives of that format! I could possibly rent the regular version to be able to make an archive of that!
I hope you change your mind, think you've spent too much time in the garage lately, you need to get out!!

                          C'mon Scott,
You got that bike on the road. Haul a$$ down to the theater and watch the movie. Break in the motor on the way.
I haven't been down to watch but it is on the list. Sounds like it might be a winner...
Any trecky fan has to at least give it a try.

I'll pm you in a day or so. I have a story for you.

                            No Shat, no show

T.C., I've been watching the latest re-imagined Trek online as it developed.

I prefer Shatner's Kirk and Enterprise. I don't like and in some cases detest the characters played by Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Dracula[sp]. I'm tired of re-imagined shows, I'm tired of time travel plot devices and I'm tired of what Paramount has done with the franchise. This time they're not getting my money full stop.

It's a good movie but should have been made using different characters and a different ship at the very least. Coming up with a new name, characters and a ship instead of latching onto the faded glory of a fourty-year-old television show would have been even better.

No Bloody A,B,C or D and no bad CG
