In my opinion the "new" fender is fugly...it reminds me of a giant horseshoe crab..it is out of character with the rest of the bike...the before fender looks just right...1980 XS650G Special-Two

concidering half my chops are nicknamed madmax, thumbs up to ya lol, i kinda wish this forum has an option to close my thread like most forums do, though i love the feedback, my mind was pretty much made up, but the more replies i keep getting, the more times i have to keep clicking on this link, i keep seeing that picture and i'm really starting to like the double bouble look of the tank and fender from behind, the side is starting to grow on me too now...... thanks guys... thanks alot, and here i was ready to donate it to another chop.... lol.
well, i'm not in my garage right now, but does the xs850 have the same tank style as the 1100? would i get this same look with that one too... ah.... nevermind, i'll look later, otherwize i'll just get more replies and keep seeing the pics... damnet man...... lol
But i really am happy so many like the original better, lets me know i didnt do a half bad job on this one, though far from over, i tend to spend more time and effort on my flip bikes then i do my personals. I got this for 300 as an outdated full dresser, maybe spent 200 bucks in parts, special tank, bars, headlights, paint, etc, and maybe 10-12 hours on it, not too bad for around the 500 mark total, I was offered 2k for it the other day, thought about it, then slid her about 200 feet that same night, pics are of the good side, i've already replaced the grips, bars, both levers, headlight, right side signals, clutch cover, and still got a nasty tank to bondo and fill once the weather hits above 70, but hey, so add another 50 bucks to the total lol. maybe thats another good reason not to bother with the fender, the plastic wouldnt last long with me riding it hahahha, i guess i shouldnt race rockets all the time with a beater from 78. but she holds her own, just not smart with a bald tire...Last edited by lostsoul74; 04-18-2009, 08:19 PM.

I can, just got to make some minor knotches and bondo over the old holes and paint to match, but kinda 50/50 on weather it looks ok or not. Heres a pic of the before and after, the before is obviously the ducktail bobbed original fender. Plan was to go with a whitewall for that bobber look, but the new fender would cover most of that and definately change the style and taste.... how about you guys, like or dislike. - - -
ignore those impractical fools! What works best looks best.
That fender will work far better in keeping an ugly streak of mud and road debris from building up along your back in wet weather.
Plus, you could French the rear light into it? Now that'd look trick and different, eh?Fred Hill, S'toon

I like it, not my style but with some white walls and a little something, something with the rims (powder coat?) maybe no front fender, long fishtail pipes, and boom Gangster! I think that your headed in the right direction!Last edited by tbishop11; 04-19-2009, 09:19 PM.

hmm, i like your thought process, too much down time for the bike at the start of the season, but that would look sharp on the 850, and have more time to spend on it to do it right.Last edited by lostsoul74; 04-19-2009, 09:42 PM.
