A 30 YEAR OLD BIKE THAT LOOKS LIKE A NEW ONE!
WeeWhoooooooooo! $3550! It went from $2050 to $3550 in the last 6 minutes. I was all ready to hop on and go for a ride. My wife says I shouldn't have taken less than $4,000..... I'm happy, that will pay the house this month and the rest of my realestate taxes. Maybe even give me cash to finish the xs12! Then I guess I can sell the Copper Chopper...Anybody?
It could have gone for $4000 if you had set the reserve higher but you did damn well as it was!...There is someone on CL in NJ selling their 1980 (I think) XS11 for $4100..he painted it Yellow...but it still doesnt look as good as your '79...I have decided to put my '95 ST1100 up forsale but so far I have not put it on ebay...I have it listed on several other forums... I was gonna buy something else but now my priority is to finish our home renovations a get the F### outta Jersey...after the house is sold then I 'll have enough cash to entertain another bike...so it will be just me and my '82 XJ Maxim...if I ever get it back
Dang! That's a pretty impressive price you got on it and I'm sure takes some of the sting out of selling it...
Well worth it though... It's a sweet looking bike!

Garrett,
I know how bad you had to be feelin' about parting with her... but I'm glad she brung a good price. You deserve it. Judging from the pictures, she was worth that and more. Congrats.

Well Garrett your success has inspired me to sell my '95 Honda ST1100...I have had it on several forums for 2 weeks and no takers...last nite I listed it on ebay and in less than 24 hrs 4 people have bid on it and the dollar amt bid thus far is equivalent to about 1/4 of what i am looking to get for it..yeah you gotta pay ebay fees but I think it'll be worth it...still have 6 more days left too.
As for that CL Yellow XS...at $4100 I think(and alot others apparently too) that it is overpriced...also he seems to be advertising in the wrong market.
It nice to see the bike get a reasonable price isn't it. i still think these bikes are worth more but there's just so many still out there that can be made to run and part are not too rare just yet. I have no idea what my near factory floor 79 could get but I would be very disappointed if I had to sell her and did not get at least what your bike got.

Guess what! The kid that had the winning bid on my special doesn't have the $$$ to pay! You think he would have already known that before he made the $200 deposit. Now he says he can't get the $$$ and wants the nonrefundable deposit back. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. I've been watching the mail for two weeks...looking for the check, ready to pay some bills.....he wants his deposit back...
Anyway, I'm sending out second chance offers or relisting. As for now I still have it.

Someone said recently that you shouldn't drink and eBay... How true that is!
Apparently your buyer was imbibing a bit...
and you did say in your write up that the deposit was nonrefundable...
Guess he should have paid more attention...
Sucks for him... but not your fault at all...

Some people don't think rules should apply to them.
There's a whole generation of them in training right now. The schools were so worried about improving everyone's self image, many of today's kids seem to feel like there's just never been anything on the planet like them. I think a high percentage truly don't care about anyone but themselves. Then again, being kids, maybe they're not that different from previous generations. Kids will be kids and all. I hope you reported the little peckerwood to ebay - sometimes you have to learn lessons the hard way that you didn't learn at home .
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
Dang Garrett this is the last thing I expected to hear from you...sorry to hear this. You should definitely report the little snot to ebay and leave negative feedback on him...next time raise your non refundable deposit to $500. I wish I could afford it myself...I have relisted my ST1100 as it didnt sell the first time and now the second time with 2 hours left it aint selling People just think you should give it away..perhaps some of the other bidders on your bike would like a second chance offer...dunno if thats still possible with your auction.

Very sorry to hear this has happened to you! I know it's gonna suck having to go through it all again and be delayed like this with bills pressing, but maybe you'll not only have similar luck with the price again... but this time it will be to a LEGITIMATE buyer. And you made a couple hundred extra for your trouble. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. Hang in there, and I agree, I would definitely report him to ebay for the well-being of everybody in the future.
Regards,
Bob

The thing is, there are a lot of things stacked against the market for these bikes.
1. The average rider wouldn't know what a Torx wrench was, and would never THINK of changing their own oil, so the idea of getting a bike that might need a little TLC is just outta their league. The ART of automotive care is all but lost on the youth of today, and it's just not "cool" nor important to get your hands greasy.
2. Today's culture has told buyers that if it's not a Hardley with $10k in chrome or a crotch rocket with ^&%(* exhaust and frame sliders, it's not worth riding.
3. People nowadays don't believe in nostalgia. I grew up with the "microwave" and "disposable" generation. If it's out of factory warranty, it's too old to own, so it's time to "trade up" to a newer model. Our bikes are definitely WAY past the factory warranty
Sorry to hear that the buyer backed out on you Garrett, but maybe loosing his $200 will teach him a little lesson. Of course, he's probably ignorant enough to blame it on you, and say that he can't believe someone would be so rude, without realizing how what he did affects you.
