No. You see, what happens is after you buy those buzz lightyear toys, the fairing stays up by "falling with style" (I really hope that at least one person gets that)

Thanks Kat, it's getting so I can't read my own writing anymore. By the way everyone, I dumped those plastic Vetter windshield screws and nuts in favor of metal rivet nuts and Allen screws, so I wouldn't have to remove my CycleSound in order to remove my windshield for polishing or changing. If anyone is interested in doing that, I'll post some pics. and instructions.

I'd be interested, but doesn't Craig Vetter say to not use metal fasteners to at risk of damaging/breaking the windshield (and those things are NOT cheap).

If you still want to use the plastic screws they make 8/32 rivet nuts. so you just need to use them instead of the 10/32's that I used, but I think he was worried about the windshield braking if bumped more then being tightened down to tight.

Cy, it's not so much the windshield damage that's the problem, it's that steel screws work too well.

In an accident, the two upper steel clips are supposed to bend and release the upper part of the windshield and the lower plastic screws are supposed to break off, releasing the windshield. If the clips don't bend and the screws don't break, the windshield will not release and it could break in half. Either way it will create a instant guillotine out of the windshield and the fairing.

Losing a few cheap, plastic, screws can quite literally save your neck or, depending upon the particular style of aerobatics you are performing at the time of a kinetically-expedited dismount, a couple of other important parts.

Do not use steel screws to attach the windshield to the fairing, use plastic screws.

Thanks for the tip, However I seem to specialize in high-side crashes, where being beheaded by a broken windshield isn't a problem, but if I do decide to crash head on I'll keep it in mind.

Okay, high-side and low-side dismounts are entirely different than a soccer mom on a cellphone turning left in front of you and putting a smile through your face a la, "Batman: The Dark Knight" and "The Disappearing Windshield Trick!"

For high-side dismounts above all go for form! Height, arc, distance, follow-through and penetration will appear to survivors and witnesses to flow naturally if one can simply maintain good form.

For low-side dismounts quote Shakespeare at the top of your voice as you assume the role of Puck. At high speeds try to get away from the bike for the straight and simple verse, "I'll put a girdle round about the earth in forty minutes!"

If possible, avoid the more prolonged, "I'll follow you, I'll lead you about a round, through bog, through bush, through brake, through brier...."

For the ride report: remember if you tried to slide or roll!

                      Regards,
