Is it bad to show up to an interview on a motorcycle?

Business Casual is one step lower than Business Dress. It can vary though, depending on the company. It can go from just removing the tie from your dress shirt, to wearing nice jeans and a polo shirt. As a general rule though, I would say to ALWAYS tuck in anything nicer than a t-shirt.

I would suggest, rather than asking, "how casual can I go, and still be acceptable", you should shoot for, "how much can I impress this prospective employer with my first impression".

Anything bad that has ever happened to you probably involved some twit in a tie.

Anyone who bases thier hiring decisions on whether the prospect can button a shirt and tie a tie, deserves what they get.

I go with the ones that said park out of sight and walk the last bit. Arriving on a bike should make no difference, but as many of the replies show, many people are wierd!

It's best to remember who is doing the hiring. If it's your buddy, no problemo.
If it's the newest dyckhead in HR that has a thing about blue collar folks, well then yeah, you need to look the part. He's the guy you have to get past.

Business casual is generally accepted to be Dockers, a button up shirt, and decent shoes or nice boots. No tie, no jacket.

Ask yourself: How bad do I want this job?
Act accordingly, because the guy you talk to will be asking himself, "How bad does this guy want the job?"

As for riding the bike, I would not worry about it if you can show up looking professional.

As stated.. if anyone does see you ride a bike there, explain your situation like you just did here. Tell them that you need to go to several places this afternoon and the bike is more maneuverable with the way traffic is these days. I wouldn't stipulate as to where I had appointments. They may take it as you are looking elsewhere for a job also, but that may work to your advantage if they want you.


If you are simply looking for excuses so you can ride.. then go for a ride. If you think there may be a problem.. drive your truck.

I have always been told to go to an interview dressed to suit the job.
The only question I have ever been asked about transportation is "do you have transportation".
The only downfall to going on the bike is helmet hair.But a comb can fix that.And I think most employers would be more optimistic to know a person has more than one mode of transportation.

The interview was a waste of time, thanks to the job recruiter. I got all dressed up with a button up shirt and khaki pants, I was way over dressed compared to all the office people in blue jeans and tshirts! I think my attire made them think I was a snob, or so it seemed. And the owner was a Harley poser, I drove the truck there but should have rode the bike for a slap in his face! Plus they were looking for a planner and sprinkler installer both of which I don't do. And their benefits suck compare to what I have now. The more I look the more I think I should stay and just wait until my number is up and get unemployment until I can find another job, I think I've earned it after almost 11 years!

Benefits I have now:

4 weeks vacation (paid)
5 days of PTO (paid)
3 floating holidays (basically PTO, paid)
11 holidays (paid)
company van (I hate vans but it's free!)
company gas card
company phone
good pay
401k matched up to 5%
less expensive healthcare

The company I interviewed for:

no 401k
no healthcare
no PTO
5 paid holidays
1 week vacation after a year, 2 weeks after 5 years
company truck
company gas card
company phone
good pay, but how good can it be with no 401k or healthcare!

It's a 2003 Chevrolet 2500 HD extended cab long bed geared for towing, that's pretty much why it gets a little over 10mpg, and because I cruise at 75mph. It only has 21,000 miles on it, I only put 1,500 miles on it over the last year.

Jeremy, I have an F150 Crew Cab, 5.4L with 3:73 gears in the diff. I feel your pain. I get about 13 MPG maybe 15 on the highway. That is freshly tuned and running strong. Of course my old Cutlass only gets 5-8 MPG, but it has a secret under the hood

Yeah, 32 or 36, either way the 11 rocks on milage for me!!

I probably get about 13 on average, 6.0L V8 with the 3:73 rear. I really don't mind it since I hardly drive it.

I have a 500+hp 502cuin big block in my Monte Carlo.

It has 3:73 rear gears (towing anyone?) and NO overdrive.

I get 14mpg pulling my Boler holiday trailer and I think it's terrible.

There is NO reason that the most heavy duty p/u off the lot isn't getting at least 20mpg.

We redid Derwat's 91 Dakota 4x4. It used to get 12-14mpg Highway too, now it gets 20-25mpg.

Mine is a 502 ramjet crate engine from GM perf. It is setup for turning track times though. Combined with a 150 HP shot it will turn almost 10s, very low 11s.

Tell me how to get that kind of milage form my 5.4, please!!!

I run 12.3s-12.4s in a full-street 3800lb car. With your 150hp NOS system I would almost be in the 10s too. However, Mine is waiting for the roots supercharger (ala 6-71) I just never got around to finishing it.

As for your 5.4? You want as good of mileage as your RJ?

Wow,I feel like I have an economy truck now.I have a 4.8L v8 in my silverado and it gets 15-16 in town and 20-21 highway.
