  • Tattoos, just a stereotype?

Ivan in his "Class M" thread asked the question if he should get a tattoo now that he is officially a legal motorcyclist. Instead of hijacking his thread, I thought I would post this poll.

    Do you have tattoos?
    103
    none
    58.25%
    60
    1 or 2
    24.27%
    25
    3 or 4
    11.65%
    12
    5 to "I've lost count"
    5.83%
    6

    The poll is expired.

By the way, I couldn't help but think about the weekend warriors in the movie, "Wild Hogs" when I started this thread.

I've got a wolf on my right shoulder blade, C² in old English script on my right shoulder, and a old rugged cross with an American flag draped over it on my left calf.

I have plans for more. I think for my birthday I'm going to get myself another. It will be Joshua 1:9 from the bible(there's a story behind it), but written in Hebrew script. I'd also like to get "This too shall pass" in Hebrew, but I'm not sure where I want that yet.

I have 2. Not sure if I will get more but I don't regret the ones I have.

Tattoos seem to me to be like the Harley thing. Not necessarilly the best thing, but everyone is getting one, right?

I realize not everyone is a mindless follower (Herd mentallity) but it's getting to where you can't see a pretty girl any more showing her mid-drift showing that doesn't have either a piercing, a tatto on their front, or the "Tramp stamp" on their small back.

I guess to each his own... Nothing really so much against them.. but I've personally never seen a picture or saying that I'd (Or a significant other) would like to look at every day for the rest of my life.

          Just my opinion..

I don't have one and I don't want one. Personally, I think they look dirty, but that is just my opinion. I'm also of the opinion that it's your body, do with it what you will and do what I will to mine. My wife thinks we should each get matching tattoo's, I refuse.

Don't have any here either. I got enough scars. Add a tattoo and people might talk.

Never really liked the "tramp stamp" look. Except when I was young and single it might have been helpful at the bar to know which girl to try and hook up with. Anymore they all seem to get them a bit lower and other side, then want to tell you about them.

My brother was in the Navy, he has about 5 or 6 now. Most of them I would consider limiting in his career choices unless he wants to wear long sleeves year round.

I think some tattoos are ok, up to a point.

Some people wind up looking like a scratch pad in a phone booth. Not a square inch untouched, with no particular plan... There are those who look like they got a different tattoo from everywhere they have been. Sort of like the back of a motorhome with all the stickers on the back window.
                On women..No way.
I think it was Prom who made the observation, and I will paraphrase here that there many an interesting areas of skin on a woman but none of them need to be enhanced with ink. I agree whole hartedly.

I personally have 7 tattoos. I got my first tattoo at the age of 17 as a rebelious act but I have since matured and my most recent tattoos have meaning. I have my wedding band tattooed on my left ring finger, I have a tattoo on my chest of two wedding bands hooked together with my wife's name in one and my name in the other and our wedding date around the tattoo, I have my name in Korean on my left shoulder in remberance of a very close friend of mine that is a Korean native (I figured I should get my name instead of his lol),I have a frog on my right shoulder blade and within the frog are my grandmother's initials (she was very close to me and passed when I was a teenager), and I have a tatttoo that my only full blood brother and I share (we are the last two males in our family line not including my children). The other tattoos that I have are for self expression (in other words I was young and dumb when I got them). I do have plans to get both of my childrens' names tattooed on me along with at least one more of a crucifix to cover the left side of my torso.
The only thing that I have to say about someone deciding to get a tattoo is just make sure you get it for yourself and for no other reason.

None for me, been thinking about it tho'
SWMBO really wants a couple, 1 as a tribute to her father, a really great man!
and then an angel and a devil on opposite shoulders.....also want's a belly button ring

The 'Tramp Stamp' sure would've been a handy thing,

But the stereotype thing, it used tobe, now, not sooo much!
is that a good thing or not, I don't know

I don't have one... but I've been thinking strongly about the kind of tribal tattoo that goes just above the bicep and all the way around the arm... I really like the look...

My Son does tattooing, and has been dying to do me. I finally decided to get "XS Eleven" on my left shoulder. It looks great. There is a picture of it floating around here somewhere.

I think tattoos would be much cooler if they didn't have some form of death idolatry in them. Skulls and flames are just not my thing. I think it is tacky and disgusting. I have seen some tattoos that looked very nice. Unfortunately, it seems to be cool to have the teardrops, supposedly symbolizing how many people you have killed, or the ones on the web of the hand which mean the same thing, from what I understand. I have heard the one on the web of your hand was originated in a foriegn countries (cuba?) prison system, to let others know how dangerous the inmate was.

I guess I am too old school. I get pissy when my daughters changer their hair color. maybe I need to lighten up.

So, to quote my all time biggest heroes, Beavis and Butthead:

"Hey Butthead, I wish I was born with a tattoo."

"You're not born with them dumbass, you get them when you join the Navy."
                              Ich habe dich nicht gefragt.
