Guy that used to work with me had "shirt sleeves". Just peeked out to almost his wrist. Since we work in a "professional" environment, he always wore long sleeve shirts all year long. Was kind of a pain, and even then, they were somewhat obvious at times.

Sort of "got in the way" of his work as he stated that he felt they should not be visible since some clients would be offended. Not that I think anyone should truly be offended by someone elses choice of self expression to the point of not doing business with them. At least not over Tattoos. But it can effect your ability to progress in a chosen career.

"wondered if your my son"......now thats funny right there, I don't care who you are, that's funny.

Big Daddy Funk will be at the Ash Grove Inn. Madmax-im has the other bed. I'm sure we could find room for you Paul, but you would have to sign a waivier and disclaimer first. By the way that Tootoo is extra long for a reason.Rick.

That's what I am trying to explain to my son and hopefully he is starting to catch on. He went into the Marine Corps three years ago with no tattoos. Now he has twelve. Most are in good taste and I liked them, ex: a Marine Corps "Eagle, Globe & Anchor" which was done very well. But one or two leave me scratching my head.

He want's to follow in my footsteps after his Marine Corps duty is over and get on with Customs & Border Protection on the patrol boats. I told him, "There is no way in heck that they are going to hire you if you get one of those sleeves." which is what he was talking about having done.

Alot of people think the Marine Corps cracked down on them having tats...well, I guess that was the last Commandant and the new one isn't so worried about them, just no neck, no face, hands ( I think) and no offensive material like something racist.

I've also told him, "If you are going to get something, think about if you are going to want it still when your in your 60's."

I just went to Wendy's for lunch today, and there was a young black guy at the register with full sleeves. They weren't really detailed or colorful, but one of them went past the wrist and onto the back of his hand. I couldn't help but think that he will have a hard time going anywhere past Wendy's as far as a career goes... I know there are a lot of places that won't hire you if they can see any tatoos at all.

Personally, I think the idea of even using pen on your skin (including jotting notes on your palm) is disgusting. I developed my distaste for tatoos early in life, and later joined my church, which just happens to have the same view of them. The body is a Temple, and to me, it's like taking a can of spray paint to the walls of the church building.

The Japaneese have an interesting view of tatoos. Until recently they were totally illegal, because they were associated with the mafia. The Full Body Suit had become a common practice for the mafioso there. Even now, there are public places, like swimming pools and such, that will not allow people with tatoos to enter because of that.

                Hi 'Bug,
you could switch to a Church with an older tradition, perhaps Catholic or even Anglican.
The Priests dress up for the services like it's still 1600AD and the more stained glass in the windows the better. By extension getting a few tattoos on a religious theme could be a sign of devotion.

                  Dance invitation

Hey Don, In this case the young lady was trying to get me to dance with her at a electronica night club. (it worked) I overcame my natural shy self. That's all I can say about that. I'm not really sure about the tattoo though.
I'm not a religious person, so I generally treat my body like an amusement park. There will be some great stories that can be told about me when the park closes. Thx Rick

Sounds like the church I went to as a kid that told us we would burn in hell if we ate a burger on Friday.

One mass, during the concerns of the church, an old woman stood up with a question. She was sitting right in front of the pastor in the fourth row.

"Father?"...."Father?......"Father". He acted like she wasn't even there. She left in tears. That was the last time I stepped foot in that church. Waaaay too judgemental.

if my body is, indeed, a temple, then my ink is not a desecration, it's a DECORATION.

i'm sure some people didn't like all that paint on the ceiling of the sistine chapel, either, but it seems to have worked out in the end.

Hmmmm, scratching my head here. Wouldn't people think that riding a motorcycle is more of a threat to your "temple" than ink?

Not so much... We believe in simplicity and a less public display of devotion. Modest dress (no daisy dukes or tank tops) for both men and women is the norm, and piercings are limitied to a single set, and only for women's ears. We don't drink alcohol, coffee or black tea, we don't smoke, and we don't gamble. To me, it's a matter of treating my own body with respect, and honoring the gift that my body is to me. I know this wasn't supposed to be a religious thread, and I've seen the nastiness that can come out of mentioning religion on this site, so I won't go into any more than that. It's just my own personal opinion, and that opinion is backed up my my religious beliefs. I understand that other people have different beliefs, and that's ok with me. As long as we can all enjoy our bikes, and have fun talking about them.

Yep religion is a VERY personal choice. Kinda like picking your significant other!! There is one out there for everyone and not the same for all.

I kinda like the saying some one here had as a signature bout the goal not being to arrive pristine like a china doll but sliding into heaven all used up! Yep I took what the good lord gave me and I used it to the best of my abilities!! To each their own for sure. No right or wrong to that choice.

Wow! This thread apparently took a couple of left hand turns since I last looked. What I've gathered in life's experiences is that God granted mankind the gift of free will and it's up to us to decide what's right and wrong for ourselves and only He can judge us. I hope everyone here is doing what they personally feel is right and doesn't pass judgement one others. What a deep conversation when the original question was just asking how many tattoos everyone had.
