An idea about who is doing what:

Kelly, Lawrence, and Cail in a Kabin
Mike, Scott, and Bro-in-law are tenting
Ray and SWMBO in Motel 6 Atascadero
REFFI and SWMBO in a hotel
    Special Ed is tenting
Jerry is camping by the lake

    Is that it?
This is correct as far as I can see. I'll give Tkat a buzz if you have not, to see if they can make it.

      Rally....YO

Hi all.........I'll keep this short as my RAM is making this thing really slow and wierd. Took a ride to Jerry's yesterday..........nice Connie he has!. Visited a bit and I'm considering tagging along with him on my STeed to the gettogether on the 12th. If i was to commit to this by end of week(wife says GO with painting master bedroom prior as stipulation) would I still be able to get a tent space with the group at the KOA? The ride choice is just cause don't really wanna hammer out a 5k rpm ride like that on the Venturer when I have the bike that is specificlly designed to slab it at high cruising speeds like that with ease...........plus like that 50+mpg. Let me know here so I can say yea or nay and if yea, can make necessary reservations. Thanks all..........will hopefully get a chance to meet some other great XSers....Brant.

          Brant,
There should be room for another tent! ( this from a motel person!!) KOA usually allows three tents per space, but I think someone posted they reserved the group space. Room for TEN tents there!
Looking forward to seeing everyone again!

I would love to have been able to make it (would have been my first) but between work and working on the bike I don't see it happening this year. Maybe the next one, or if there is another rally (or a norcal rally) later this year I might be able to make it. It sounds like a good time is going to be had by all who attend.

Remember, the ride reports on the rally are worthless without pictures!

Brant, I have the group site reserved. Come on by!

I'm hoping John/Kat/? can make it out here to the left coast from Texas. I was planning to go back east for the Bob Jones and MoM rallys but events have prevented it.

My bike broke before the Bob Jones rally and a lady is coming up from downunder for a visit the same weekend as the MoM so that's right out, too.

There'll be more rides this summer, I'm sure. It's like the Gumball Rally: as soon as the current one's over, another one's in the works before we're out of the parking lot.

              Regards,

3Phase, is there a tent spot left for me, or do I need to call the KOA? Let me know here. Looks like this run to there is gonna be super-heated for the most part........best strap on the Camel-Bak for this 1,000mile jaunt!

Hey Scott... I wish that were happening too... but not this year...

Like I told LoHo... we'll just have to have a drink for y'all and y'all have one for us... BUT... one of these times we'll get out that way...

                    Have a great ride!

                      motoman,
There is room for you in the campground. Scott has the "group site" reserved. It will hold up to 10 tents. Grab you Camel-Bak and come on down! It WILL be cooler at the ocean, so do remember that when packing.
                      Kat,
I know you can't wait to get back out here! Fort Ord is NOT the same, as there is almost NO Military there anymore. The roads are GREAT for riding, though!

You should be fine but you can call to be sure. I still have a twitch left over from KOA after last year.

                            Can't make it?!

Awe man! I am majorly disappointed Kat. Oh well, If you can't make it down here maybe I can make it to your neck-of-the woods before 2012. Anyway, I hope the twisters don't get you.

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"

Jerry, after this many years, "Gumball Rally" is one of my favorite movies from that '70s haze. I'd forgotten about Lapchick and the Kawasaki!

When I lived up by Yosemite I, too, wound up huddled by the exhaust or hugging the engine block! I made a hot air duct for my KZ750 that ran from the engine to my hands or under my jacket for my torso.

It didn't work, except in the summer.

Eventually, I used a guage to tell me when to stop riding: when the bike high-centers in the snow and can not move under its own power it is time to stop riding and tear down the bike for inspection and maintenence.

I didn't have a garage so I did it in the living room next to the wood stove. The ex-wife was not pleased. I miss that bike!
