Ya, it's below zero here. I did spend a few hours in the man cave working on the xs850, charged the battery on the Timemachine, and wiped off the frost once I get it warm enough with the nepco to thaw. I gota wonder what posessed my mind to live in Minnesota. I can tell you when we can ride, this place is like few others!

      The reason

I have my XS11 because my neighbor had to move to Minnesota and didn't want to take it with him. Hmmmmmm, I guess now I know why.

If it makes the northern people feel any better...

Friday it was 70 degrees and we put over 200 miles on the bikes... Saturday it was 84 and I logged another 100 miles...
(okay... so that may not make you feel any better)
        But yesterday... we had this...

        barely got above freezing...

Okay... so today is 60 something and tomorrow will be 60 something and Thursday and Friday will be even warmer... but there was at least one day we had ice and couldn't ride...

By the way... the bike is no longer in the elements... it's in the garage... where it belongs... the cars stay outside... where they belong...

          Warm Weather Optional

Well was happy to be riding on the 31st and the 1st in light gear here in Denver was in 50's low 60's last week heavy clothes for work was in 30's but as long as roads clear can ride the 2nd was ridiculous almost 70 if want snow just head up into the hills. so while no twisties right now at least can ride can't ask for much more than that lived in New england long enough not to miss humidity and constant road salt that's for sure

there are a few places that will let you pay only for the months you ride. Mine is specified for march through october riding, but i think the slip says all year. pretty ballsy/nutty to try and ride in the off months here anyway. roads are never clear enough until at least mid way through march anyway...

Here we can insure our bikes in Oct and uninsure them in March and it costs about 3 bucks. The season to ride is variable and the amount they take is too. July and August here cost us about 35% each for premium and the rest is accordingly. That is just ballpark figures but is very close to true amounts

Not really sure what you're trying to say with the percentages and all but I think you got your March and October reversed...

It's not been above 45 or so here for the last few weeks, and I've been riding as often as possible. Got a lined, armored jacket and a new helmet and insulated gloves for Christmas, and I've been taking the opportunity to break them in. The roads were icy yesterday and today, so I drove the cage, but should be back above freezing for tomorrow, so I'll be back on the bike then. We don't get much snow here, so as long as the roads stay dry, I don't mind the cold. The only hard part is keeping the helmet from fogging up! The new helmet is much better with that than my old one, but it still likes to fog up if I take a deep breath when the temps are in the 30's or lower.

I grew up in SoCal, and I still have family there, so I do know the joy of constant warm weather. I kinda miss that sometimes, but at least I don't have to deal with the feet of snow that you Canadiens do! There are a few riders here at work, and they can't believe I'm riding. Most of them winterized their bikes back in November, but I can't see wasting any possible riding time!

                        percentage of premium

Here in Alberta you have to pay insurance for a full yr. On months where one would not normally ride due to weather, the percentage of the premium used is less than when it is nice out. It breaks down something like this even though these numbers are not exact.

                        Jan-1%
                        Feb-2%
                        Mar-5%
                        Apr-7%
                        May-15%
                        June-20%
                        July-20%
                        Aug-15%
                        Sept-7%
                        Oct-5%
                        Nov-2%
                        Dec-1%

So if you insure your bike in May and in Aug take the insurance off, You will get back only 30% of your premium. If you were to insure in Oct and take it off in March you would only use up 16% of the premium. Then you would be getting back 84% of what you paid. This is why we have to pay year round insurance here, but it is not as costly as some may think. I hope I kind of got across how insurance works up here.

Ps. I pay 98 bucks a year for my insurance

                              Hey Wildkat,

Glad to hear you got thru the Texas "WINTER" okay!

I saw on the news yesterday evening that the US's Glacier National Park has essentially lost all of it's glaciers, they've almost all melted!

Sure glad that global warming thing was just a hoax!

Still waiting for Winter's fury down here in Va., it usually hits during February when we occasionally get some snow, but mostly rain, sleet, sometimes freezing rain....the worst for power lines and trees!!

I was driving back from lexington KY today and had to chip the ice off my headlights and grill area halfway back. Got an inch or so on the ground at home today. Sunday it was 60. Go figure.
