    Maybe it's reverse psychology?

Maybe he really DOES know the mentality of the XS group... Now he has a BUNCH of watchers... and maybe... just maybe... one of us will weaken... thinking how great that bike really does look... and for $1500... that's not a bad price... especially if it runs well...

Darn it, now if he knows that I know that he knows I'm going to watch because he said not to then I'll have to remove it from my watch list. Here I thought I was being a "rule breaker" and then you have to go and ruin it.

Really though it is an ok looking bike, just the seller needs some people skills.

I guess all you guys ('n gals) were a bit too hard on the poor fella'...

He ended the listing early, as the item "is no longer for sale"
          Excellent! ! !

I wonder what it would have gone for if he had better people skills?

Somehow, juussst somehow, I think it would take more than that ! After all, I don't think the fact that he is 'quite knowledgeable' on the subject would be sufficient either.

On a side note, I just luv listings that are advertised as having "no reserve", followed by a relatively 'high' starting bid. If that isn't a 'reserve', what is?

Somebody told him low book is $5000!
Or , maybe he told himself.

I'm betting it shows up again, with reserve.

Are you serious? $5000? Apparently, the voices are telling him things too...

Sorry, comming to the party late...

I've been on eBay since before it went public, March of '98. Theory of "watching" has 2 components. Some people just want to know what an item sells for. (Hint: Seach Closed items under Advanced Search to get a list of similar items and their selling price.) Sellers should want to see how many are watching to gauge interest in their item.

However, some sellers feel that watching inhibits bidding, under the theory that Watchers won't put in a bid until the last minute, thus keeping the price lower than if they had to bid earlier. If an item is also for sale locally, early bidding gives the seller a reason not to lower the price for a local buyer. This the idea is that if you are interested enough to watch, you should be interested enough to bid.

I don't agree with the above proposition, prefer to have many people watching my items, but the feeling does circulate in some circles. My experience is that the bidding gets hot in the last 30 minutes, and has since before watching was an option. I like watching some items, even though I don't plan to bid. This gives me a feel for what the market price is for a given item I may want to bid on in the future or price something simillar I have to list. Watching is a Good Thing.

And since only the seller can see how many are watching, it has NO outcome on the bid process.
