Thanks everbody!!
Well, you all are right. Called him last night because I can't drop off the parts til Wednesday. He says, 'That's okay. Rode it a little more today, took it to the gas station and around a little. It's running EXCELLENT. I still have to test it anyway so it will be a bit longer.'
An INTERVENTION may be in order!!!LOL!!
Don-If you take the whole bike down there, you won't be sorry.
He didn't just get it running. Every inch of the bike, every system has been gone through. He says the self cancelling switch is not working on the signals, so he's fixing that now too. He lowered it, buying the shocks to do it and fabricating the fork ends. He bead-blasted the head while it was apart so it would look nice when reassembled onto the motor, among other numerous small fixes.
All I have to do is the cosmetics-good wash down, and some polishing of the aluminum-and I'll be bashing around all summer on a classic!!
It will probably come home next week, so pictures to follow then. With the holiday(and I'm moving), it's hard to arrange our schedules.
I've waited this long, the end is in sight, I can wait a few more days. Plus this gives me a chance to put all the parts we didn't need away-then I can concentrate on having fun.
Wow!! That sounded so grown up, didn't it? Better than pouting and stomping my feet(I only did that once, yesterday! Honest...).80 XS1100G w/ Windjammer-the Witch

WOW
This is great news for you!I have 2 Yammmies and one is soooo far from getting back on the road and the other is just down because I am replacing and cleaning up the brake system...adding SS lines front and back...but like you i am very anxious to get the '81 SH running down the road again.PLs be careful and get accustomed to how this bike handles and delivers its power..also pls remmy that this weekend is the 4th of July holiday...so watch out for the crazies... BTW Carolyn...could you provide me with the name and contact # for your mechanic???My '82 is going downhill fast!I need the whole bike gone through and then some problems in the tranny as well.I am not a great hands on person when it comes to things mechanical so I would really like a "specialist" to take care of it.....ONce again though...Congratulations on getting your bike back.If I have to bring this bike up to MA. I will let you know I'm gonna be in town...1980 XS650G Special-Two

Concord is about 45 minutes to an hour away-depending on how you drive and what road you take.
It could turn into a fun trip, you never know.
Good Luck, and keep me posted!80 XS1100G w/ Windjammer-the Witch

Congrats and happy riding!
I was following your story while I worked on my 'new' XS.
You got your bike back before the end of summer so now you can *ride* it!

Dropping off film today
Should be some pictures of it, in pieces, next week.
Picking the bike up Friday, the 11th. Plenty of pictures of it completed when it comes home.
Already been invited for a ride on the 12th. The bike will be ready. Not so sure I will be. I'd like more than one day of getting used to it before I take off for 150 miles or so.
Be patient with me...I'm also in the process of moving, and I have a huge(once a year)project at work that is my sole responsibility.
After all this waiting for it to be done, why is it actually finished when I have NO time?!!!!
Yeeeesh!!
