  • It's done!!!

Ed just called. The little wisenheimer says,'Hi, it's me. Something I gotta tell you about your bike.'...
My heart sunk-Dear God, what NOW?!

He says, 'that thing rides great! I think you're gonna like it'.

    Wooo-Hoooo!!

He wants the seat and the key to the gas tank. He wants to 'plug test' it on the highway. I don't know what that is, but whatever he says...
He wants to run it for 20 miles or so, drain the oil and put another new filter on it and fill it with fresh oil. It's been lowered, he tested it to make sure it doesn't bottom out too. The 'plug test' and a final tune and she'll be home!!!

I'm so happy!! I just now stopped bouncing around the house to write this. The cat thinks I've lost it!!
I'm off to bring the man what he wants...

    Pics to follow!!!!

He wants to run it for 20 miles or so

Yeah... because we all know this test takes 20 miles to do! lol...

Sounds to me like he likes the bike and wants a test ride! lol.

The plug test is.... Run the bike up over 4k rpm, to make sure just the main jets are involved, then immediatley pull the clutch in and hit the kill switch. Roll to the side of the road, pull the plugs and check the color. White = Lean.. Black = Rich.

Very good news! This has been what, a month in progress? More? I don't know if i could make it that long without my baby.

Take it easy for the first few rides, these bikes can be a handful.

                  Alright, Good for you!

Sounds like you've got a good mechanic, I'd keep him.

I wish I could go on 40 - 60 mile test rides on some of the stuff I have to work on, but my proficiency ratings would be so low, it wouldn't be worth keeping me on the payroll.

We need a ride report, pictures of the bike and pictures of you riding it... Chop-chop, come on girl, don't keep us in suspense too long!... ;D

Here's a picture of how I found it last night when I dropped the keys and seat off.

The fairing is still off of it, but will be replaced today. Ed gave me some trouble about having the fairing on it. He thinks it's too heavy for the front end and it makes it blow around in the wind. I told him I still want it on there, so he's putting it back and checking all the wiring and lights.
He has lowered it 1 1/2 inches in height, which translates to around 2 1/4 inches in overall 'tallness'. He test rode it over ditches and gullies to make sure it would not bottom out or hit fenders. I have 7 inches of play on the forks. The fairing final fit may be a concern. I still have my 79 front end if the fairing will not adapt to the lower height and will change it all back to stock(what a shame, I'll have to make it a little more 'cafe' if that happens. Too bad...wink, wink!!).
The fuel tank is my spare. It was clean inside, but looks like doody. The other tank is ready to go now and will be put back on when I get the bike home. It's looking like Thursday night I'll be picking it up! This is the best 4th ever as far as I'm concerned!!
Look what else showed up at Ed's to be gone through...

It came to him as a wreck a while back. The guy that bought it has done alot of work to it and has Ed maintain it. It's a 750. Cool, huh? Yep, that mechanic of mine is worth his weight in gold!!
He started the Witch up(remember, I've never heard an XS11 with a 4into2 run before. This bike never ran for me). I got all misty again(I'm such a 'Nancy')!! It sounded better than I ever thought it would. I am SO excited! I may even take next week off to play with it all week!!!!
Thank you all for your well wishes, and for being here to be so helpful and supportive for me. I will put up more pictures as soon as I get her home!!

Congrats Carolyn. Those rides are almost here for you!

I spoke with Ed on the phone and told him that I would like to have him do some work on my SH as well. I explained that I would get the head down to him when I get the chance and that it wasn't something I needed ASAP...that is as long as the SG is running well.

Maybe I ought to drag the whole bike down for him to do his magic.
