    Metzler ME880 tires

I would like to put a ME880 tire on the rear of my 78 XS1100E. The closest size to the 130/90 17 I am currently running is a 140/80 17. Is anyone running this tire? I am conserned about the swing arm clearance. Also is this tire a smaller diameter than the 130/90? Thanks.

    Mississippi,

I have an 80SG Special. The clearances are probably the same.

    Hope this helps

Thanks NUBEE. I am sure they are the same. I think I will go ahead and buy this tire.

          Custom791100,

After reading skippy344's opinion here I decided to try his tire COMBINATION I'm not a peg dragger like some, but I do a twisty road now and then

Last tires I used were Metzler Laser up front and Metztronic rear. They worked very well from the start and held the twisties very good. After the normal 3 rears to 1 front I changed out for Metzler Lasertec front and rear. These are a matched set. They handle a bit better in the turns than did the Laser/Metztronic combination and seem to be wearing about the same. These are both V rated tires so that prolonged blast up to 140 that some riders like is not a safety problem.

I like them and would recommend them since it can cost a small fortune to do a bunch of tire testing.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

                  Metzeler Marathon ME880s

I ate a set of Metzeler Lasertecs last year, but boy howdy did they stick!

I replaced them both this year with the ME880s front and back. I will get more mileage out of these and will still get the peg dragging stick that I look for.
