  • Newbie Here

    Hi everyone!

You may recognize me from my joke contributions or maybe not!

I just completed the MSF riders course on the 18th and got my motorcycle endorsement!!

Okay, my 'coach' wasn't the most informative or entertaining person to teach 6 new riders and I feel like I've missed out on some things - like parking, sand/debris manuevering but hey, that's what Gnepig is for!! Luv ya honey!

I haven't ridden on the roadways just yet but we did go last night (and probably tonight) to the parking lot of the mall where the riders course has space all marked off for the weekends and rode around for quite a while.

Florida drivers are nuts (as I'm sure they are anywhere else) but when you live in God's waiting room you take your chances just by driving anything, anywhere. Too many people don't see you or worse, aim right for you. It's like target practice to them.

I'm not certain if I will want to ride on a regular basis or go back to being the backseat accessory but I want to try it. The other part that made me really want to consider it is the fact I just spent $50.00 to fill up my gas tank....on a 4 cylinder car. Figured I could handle spending $8-$12 to fill up a bike easier than the car thing. I only work less than 2 miles from home (if it weren't for the bad neighborhood I would have to pass thru, I would bicycle).

I just thought I would say Hey and let you know there is another motorcycle driver in your midst!

Anyone have any sage words of advice to share???

    Congratulations!

Advice? Nothing that you probably haven't already learned... just reiterating the main thing...

Keep it upright... the alternative sucks...

      Way cool

What bike you going to be riding?
      How about a pic?

Some of the old geezers “retarded” out there be flat out dangerous. Had a few close calls when I lived there but seems that just as many younger people out here have similar tendencies of trying to run over bikers. Sometimes I can ride for two or three days here in CA CA land without having to dodge some turkey.

        Couple of things

        First: Welcome!
Other First: You must be comfortable with what you are doing. So, time in the saddle is very important. Practice practice practice.
Early Sunday mornings are good, beat the old folks out to the streets. Don't just putt down the street, play with it. Normal riding conditions are never in effect when quick responses are called for.

Too slow can be as bad as too fast for getting into bad situations. Speed can get you out of trouble as well as into trouble.
Slow speed control is important, Fast stops are important, keep your head on a swivel, never trust blinkers, drive like they are trying to kill ya!

        Two wheeling is addictive.

        Ciao!

"Oh, NOW you ask for advice.!"

You should have asked for my advice last year.... before you took up with that guy GNEPIG.

But, in your defense, you did take the Motorcycle Safety Course... so it seems that you do know how to make some good decisions after all.
          Congratulations on that.

WildKat - thank you....maybe one day I'll be as proficient as you.

MRO - for now I'll be riding the bike in this here video. I don't know which bike I aspire to own just yet. I've looked at some Sportsters (no jokes please - anyone) and I've had my eye on the Spyder but right now, I'm not sure if I want to be immediately behind the handlebars or just the back seat accessory.

Oseaghda - thank you....all great words of wisdom.

Prom - sorry dear, I only make great decision and the best decision I made was when I met Gnepig. Although he didn't own a spiffy pair of leather pants. But I'll leave that hotness to you

                I LOVE that bike!

Saw it one of GNEPIG's posts and fell in love with it then... good choice!

maybe one day I'll be as proficient as you.
Ha! I have higher hopes for you than that...

You know.. when you get really comfortable riding on your own... being a backseat accessory is less and less appealing... although, the occasional snuggle ride is necessary...

Ya, watch out for Hulk Hogan's son, Nick coming up in your rearview mirrors.

I lived down that way for 21 yrs, mostly in Key Largo/Tavernier/Islamorada. Wouldn't get me on a bike in the Keys.

                    Congrats Luv Cookie, but....

Now you have to practice your right turns. I noticed all your turns in the video were left turns....the easiest to make. Now make an effort to practice right turns as much as you can. I don't know why it is but it common sentiment is that right turns are harder. Concentrate on those and the left ones will become easier.
                    Good luck!!

Cobia - valid point - try this video which I call "Right Turn Clyde". It is part of a really long video Gnepig did. I even did figure 8's (much bigger here) but no video of that.

We'll see what tomorrow brings when we try the open road - before the older folks go to church.

WildKat - that's what Gnepig said too....I'm not sure yet but it's still a new thing to me so I'll have to see. I do love those snuggle rides though. Makes me feel that he and I are the only two on the road and usually brings a smile to my face.

DJinNH - LOL, I will avoid him and those like him as much as possible.
