Oh, I'M SORRY SiP. This post was strictly self-cancel oriented, huh? Unlike the hazard you may encounter from watching that da** avatar of yours.........LOL........
I would suppose the 4-way hazards was more of a safety issue.
But as I said, my self cancel works. Although I still push the button. Just like this one........................ Oh crap, that was a click......never mind......."Elvira"

Yes
Not sure what year it was introduced though........mine is '80 LG. There is a switch on the lower part of left hand control. Comes in handy for busy roadside stops.........have yet to use it though. There if I need it."Elvira"

Still going strong. 80G. Use it all the time. I just find that it will cancel sometimes before I turn if I am sitting long at a light.80G XScitant XStreme

How it works - - -
- - - and why mine don't.
The speedo has a reed switch in it that counts the number of times the little metal disc inside the speedo turns round. The canceller counts those turns and after a certain number of them it turns the flashers off again. That's why you can sit at a red light for darn nigh ever and the flasher keeps on flashing.
But the self cancelling system only works with the appallingly expensive stock Yamaflasher.
And that bastard only works properly when driving 54Watts worth of signal filaments. Less power and it don't flash. More power and it goes flashyflashyflashy like a mad thing. When I got fed up with my stocker flashing the leftside signals at the correct rate and flashing the 66Watts total of my 3 sidecar signals at double speed I replaced it with an $8 2-prong electronic flasher from Canadian Tire.
That unit has a legal cadence rate no matter how much or how little Wattage goes through it. The downside is the self canceller doesn't work with the new flasher unit so I have to remember to turn the flashers off manually.Fred Hill, S'toon
