Back in my day in the Corps, north click, Camp Lejune, you couldn't even ride a bike unless you where an NCO, MSC, and jumping through hoops like a circus dog. I'm talking 74-75, then back again 77-78. Oki in between. I had a Sportster that I sneaked in at the piney green road. It was a dirt road. Talk about dirt biking. Drunk half the time.
But I really do agree on a dual purpose bike, you do learn alot on the dirt,, being the main thing is not to panic, learning how to maneuver, and above all lay off the back brake, unless you want to slide...
And as far as the MP's off of base, they used to roust Marines, with the local Barney's all the time in J-ville, just for the fun of it. One fight and they would spray everybody with in a one block area, and then laugh about it. No offense to any body in NC, but the particular area at the time was a real s*** hole. As a matter of fact I re-enlisted just to get out of there. Whew...sort of had to dump there.

I went for a visit last summer to Camp Lejeune. All I know is they have a Hooter's in Jacksonville so life was good. We had an absolutely gorgeous dark haired gal serving us. Of course she happens to be married to a Marine Instructor on the base.
