It fits underneath the front of the gas tank where the upper part of the frame and down tubes meet. Gives a finished look to the frame connections and hides the wiring harness and coils.

      Thanks Ron.
I looked and looked and still can't find where it bolts in. Where does the curved part face towards?

That's why I can't seem to locate where it goes on my '80 std.

            Cover...

You know, I've looked at every f*&^#@g picture of the Specials we have here and did not see one with the cover. Seems it would look pretty cool. Someone should grab it. It didn't sell on ebay.

              Not on mine

So it seems that every XS11 Special left the factory wearing one of these plastic collars but they are now so rare that most Special owners dunno what they are? Certainly my XS11SG did not have one when I bought it. I must say that had there been one on my bike, the first time I'd have had to remove it to get at the coils or whatever I'd have flung the thing in the trash. How many Special owners on the list still have theirs or would choose to fit one if they didn't?

I've got em on my specials.
How often does one need to R&R it to get at something?
Then agin I kinda like the OEM stuff.
I still have the octopi's on em too.

My special is not wearing its cover right now but I still have it. Seemed like just a cosmetic piece that hid the wire looms that go up to the headlight.

There is a small bracket that fastened to the frame and the cover is screwed to that.

                          Frame cover

Although the covers may be a PITA it seems as if they would dress it up nicely and maintain the stock/restored look of the bike. I would put it back on after I finished the bike... if I had a Special.
