I got home from Seattle late Fri night. Daughter and son had baseball BBQ/awards event on Sat.
Sun. morning was back in the truck to Las Vegas.
This truck driving is crowding my 2-wheel time.
Driving 2,500 miles a week now.

Now to try for Labor Day in Tahoe

It makes me want to hit the road real bad. Unfortunately, it's is feast or famine in my line of work. When I'm working the money and life is good, but I don't have the time for anything else but work. No work=time, but no money...Sigh. Thanks again.

Hey gents...after our tangle with the powers that be at the KOA in Midpines, I'm searching for alternative sites. I don't like the idea of a hotel based rally, and I doubt that we could secure enough camping spots for our group inside the park, although that's possible. There's another KOA on 41 near Coarsegold that looks nice (and allows campfires), so that's possible.

Any thoughts or ideas?

IMHO, perhaps some accomodation could be reached with the other KOA on the in/out, visitors charges. Was that policy only the policy of the Midpines KOA or is it system-wide?

Good question...that policy is stated nowhere in their literature, as far as I can see. I'll check out the Coarsegold KOA in person and report. Of course, I'm not sure of any cheap, close-by motels. Was the John Muir worth the effort?

I am truly sorry I haven't posted the Yosemite pics yet. I got bogged down with Colombo's post-ride inspection and maintenence and putting the engine back together for my '71 1-ton Chevy van.

While my van was stored, someone stole/ruined several thousand dollars worth of very spendy performance smallblock Chevy parts so the whole kit-and-kaboodle is in the shop being injected, inspected, detected, infected, neglected and selected and all kinds of mean, nasty, ugly things.

Right now I'm supposed to be checking my buddy's CB900C to see if it's road-worthy but just for grins I called the 800 number for KOA.

KOA is reluctant to take reservations this far in advance. The rep I spoke with (used to work the Sturgis KOA) said the manager will be back on Friday, June 27th, and he will ask for more information about making group reservations.

The rates may differ next year, but this year's rates for a tent site and extra people:

$32.50 for the first two people
$5.00 per extra person per site
6 person limit per site
possible 20% group discount

There are no campfires allowed....

Reservations: That was fast!

I just received a callback from the Coarsegold KOA.

I was informed that they're not accepting reservations until the end of December/beginning of January. I guess it's ~ six months advance?

Ahhh, the Muir Lodge. What can I say? It's ill-situated. The driveway is steep and gravel with a turn at the bottom (not quite a right angle) across a bridge. I dropped my bike on the way out trying to stop and check for traffic on the road. Further exits were made without stopping by pulling onto the pavement outside the white line.

The roooms are clean, but shabby. The furniture is creaky. (I thought the chair was going to collapse.) Bathroom provide minimal amenties, a bath mat that is almost smaller than my feet. There are three channels on the TV.

The rate I was quoted when I reserved ($62.00/night) ballooned to a total of $175.00 for two nights. Since I didn't stay the second night (and the owner refused to do a refund) I'm disputing the charge with VISA.

Would I stay there again? No.

There will always be a motel somewhere near where you decide to hold a rally for those of us who don't choose to camp, though If I'd known about the cabins, I might have shared one with someone who was willing.

I own a timeshare in Tahoe, so I'm up for that rally.

E.Liberty, no on the floor finishing. Although I like working with wood. Instead I am an Ironworker (outdoor) Do a lot of 232 wire welding.
