Okay, I knew that The Onion is a satirical/tongue-in-cheek/whatever publication, but I still watched it and asked myself "Really? He's got some gall." But upon further searching, I found that there is no Gary Nelson from Connecticut in the House of Representatives. I'll admit it; I was totally taken in by that one. Good one!

"Might be interesting to a few."

Stumbled on this several weeks ago while looking for something else. Debated whether to post it.
(Didn't want the viewers at home to think I was some sort of boob that believes everything he hears.)
Ok, it's an hour long... and yes, the guy's a Baptist preacher(this sermon drones on and on)
Rambles for a while, but then about the 30 minute mark it starts to get interesting when everything starts to tie in.
I recall the euro/petrol dollar thing and the gold issue...
Most of the other stuff I was able to independantly verify, like the IMF and Brazil, but some issues there is very little written about.
Sure, he's hawking the new edition of his book, but what he says has some validity to it.

It does indeed have some validity to it. Many of the "wealth" based magazine have been saying for years what would happen if oil trading ever stopped happening in dollars. Bad mojo for our economy. Very bad. Depression style bad. What he doesn't say is that virtually every commodity on the planet (wheat, rice, etc.) is all traded in U.S. dollars, not just oil.

I've always believed that peak oil was total BS though. There's far more we haven't even found yet, I'd wager. I've always thought we were sucking the Middle East dry so we'd control the market with what reserves we havent even touched yet. Even if there were a sustainable non-oil vehicle ready for production today, it would be well over 30 years before it could take over for the internal combustion engine completely. You aren't going to see many electric-powered heavy haulers anytime soon, for sure.

I'd guess that video was made sometime in 2005 or early 2006, and the date he refers to is March 20, 2006. There was a lot of talk about it on all the "peak oil" websites back then. Came and went. Iran is still trying like hell to set up their own exchange, but OPEC is having little of it. If the dollar collapsed, it would take 7/8 of the world's economy with it.

What I don't get is why this group of people would take in a random baptist minister and tell him all the evil plans they've laid out. It doesn't make sense.

He does drone on and on, but it's interesting nontheless. The big gold sales he refers to in the 80's is kinda funny. I hadn't really heard of that before.

It definately emphasizes why we need to stop all the crazy spending and get our finances in line before something really bad does happen though. (I know, wishful thinking)

I can say that I'll be ready, if it does.

Well, like he said, he started out as the lowly chaplain. Then, as he was the only chaplain up there, it turned into an executive position of sorts. got to sit in with all the policy meetings and such.
                Same as in the army.
I've sat in on Division operational level briefings... all the section heads were there... Division chaplain, division surgeon, etc, so it's very possable.
Recall, he said things didn't get dicey till the govt classified the info.
Big business, and the Govt, isn't doing anything that you or I wouldn't do if we were corrupt enough.
Well, corrupt govt... business as is it's nature, has to be greedy.
If you had a product, you'd certainly wish to sell it for as much as you could.
Ehtics, and how much your conscience can handle dictates what you do.
Sure, everything might be legal, but it's your ethics that come into question.
Don't know if I've related this story before. How the big Harley dealership here got it's start.
Rich kid wanted to be a Harley dealer, but there was already a dealer in town.
Rich kid buys the building next door.
(We're talking rich, family owns many car dealerships, etc)
Anyway... kid goes around the state, buying repo's and used Harleys in good condition. Starts selling them out of his "store" right next to the old Harley dealership.
Obviously, the dealership goes out of business... rich kid now owns it.
                Legal..., sure.
Questionable business practice... who's to say?
International bankers... IMF... just who do you think runs the big show, anyway? There's alway got to be someone.
Even the robber barons... though competetors at times, still all got together once in a while to discuss policies that would benefit them all.

I haven't read it yet but I just found an Interview with Ron Paul by Glenn Beck.
Glenn is part of the right wing hate machine that's fueled by middle east oil.

Ron has some good ideas. But I have two problems with Ron ...

                    -He's boring as dirt.

-I get the feeling he's an "isolationist". As appealing as isolationism is for most of us ..it would be fun to tell the world to "F" off...it simply will not work in todays "small" world.

Other than that he has some appealing ideas.

I just don't see him being able to "pull it off". I was watching him in a debate recently. It slowly occured to me Ron could very well be the next great cure for insomnia.

comes for the left? or from?
Some of the nastiest, most hateful things I've heard from opposing political parties has come from the right and been aimed at the left...
I've heard more uncalled for name calling from the right than I do around the kids I work with... but then... the mentality is often the same... though I find the kids are more mature in most cases.

Glad to see you posting again, MAXIMAN... it was almost quite around here without you.

I personally like to fire off a couple from the left, followed by a really good one from the right... or are we talking about different things?

Hey everyone..This is purely IMHO and not intended to offend or flame any person here... I just feel that a statement like the most intense hatred you have ever seen came from the Left and not the Right...is grossly one sided...Maybe that YOU have ever seen but to think that No hatred has or is being perpetrared by the right would not even be close to being true.I can think of one great instance where the hatred of the right inspired an entire nation into WWII..a Fascist nation....Germany.. thats pretty darn Right of Center...their hatred cost the lives of 30 million people worldwide. On a broader note in relation to the political references of the Left vs. the Right..are part of what is dividing this naton. If anything is EVER going to be accomplished by our so called political leaders then there has to be some sort of unification of these two camps. This is one reason why i am Independent. But I wont be running for Pres..LOL besides that politics really just plain suck.....
