Ya left one out, "cause I could not afford a car"

My first street bike, a 70's sumthin Suzuki 100, pressed steel frame and all, ran me $150 (thats a boatload of bussing tables, throwing newspapers, mowing lawns). It was all over after that, ya know the drill, bigger, better, faster.

I ride now cause it allows me time to clear the cobwebs out and destress alot.

Speakin of stress, I haven't ridden in close to three weeks, did I say moving sucks yet? Looks my next ride won't till i move the bike form the old house to the new one. I think I am gonna take the long way.

      Need the adrenalin, man!

You know the old story...got married and lost my boat, car, dog, etc. Well about 30 years ago I got married and lost my S/S Dodge race car, spare motor (yeah, it was a HEMI), trailer, etc, etc, etc. Havent raced since. But within a year I knew I needed something that would give me that adrenalin rush when I desired it.

Enter my beautiful XS! I could say she has held up better than my wife but then, I have to sleep sometime.

        Its about the little things.....

I ride because I love the feel of all the micro effects you get on a motorcycle. The stuff you miss in the cage.

Choosing your line in the curves.
The 5 degree temp differences when you drop down into a creek crossing, or ride through a warm breeze coming over a hill.
The changes in humidity and the feel of the air.
The smells of the grass, trees, tobacco curing (round here anyway)
Being part of the scenery rather than driving through it.
Choosing any number of routes home from work solely base on my mood.
        etc..
        etc..
        etc..

It is truly the little things for me.

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
          I've been riding since 1959.

most of somthing I started awhile ago

              just plain magic
there are the times when all is right
              mostly during moon lit nights
              spirits soar, soul in flight
rush of air, growl of exhaust
don’t know or care if lost
twisting the throttle to it’s stop
revs passing red line I care not
              calm settles over your mind
being one with the steel horse as it’s speed climbs
all the fears are left behind
              reaching for a new plateau
only a few will ever know
              the road is mine

Past the bridge, a sharp turn right
A glance at the mirror, see a pin dot light
round the curve and the pavement straightens
slowing the pace to see who, what I’ve awakened
now the dot is getting bright
slow some more, move to the right
along side comes a beamer with red lights
to my surprise, he drops three gears
twist of the wrist and the beam of his light spears
the highest of branches of a tree that’s near
pulls ahead then drops back beside me
nods his head, what’s it gonna be?

We’re in the twisty’s of Niles
              and I know every mile
this is my road and I can’t help but smile
Niles soul will egg you on
and cares not when your gone
but here and now twist the grip is it’s song
at night I rule what ever you ride
screw up once and join those who have tried

I drop to second wind up, pop the clutch
front wheel grabs air, speed shift to third
look in the mirror, Johnny law reminds me of a startled bird
half way thru third hit the brake
entering a turn that folds back like a snake
and know just how much it will take
loose it on this one leads to the pearly gates

down the road his light began to fade
under his helmet you could not see his faces red shade
as an old hot rod XS tail light’s farewell was bade

I ride to feel b00bs pressed into my back . Sadly, wife bought her own bike. But back when I was young and single it was a driving (riding?) reason.

I did a post above on why I like to ride but this past weekend confirmed my desire to ride. Did a three day ride about ten days ago with another rider, wanted to get out on my own so last weekend I rode to Blanchet Ky to campout along the NS mainline on private property. (whoops sorry,Norfolk Southern Railroad mainline)I like trains. I set up camp, cowboy fire, grill some chicken, heat up some stove top stuffing made at home, drink a few beers, listen to the animals around me,trains are about 70 feet away and keep me up all night, scanner is busy, just me and MY BIKE....2:30 in the morning a p break comes and I head to the tracks and the sky is crystal clear....stars like I haven't seen before....a cool night, bug free,a little buzz, small fire, trains and MY BIKE. I think then I realized that the ride down (I75 in northern KY sucks) was well worth it,I went ah,it don't get any better than this....riding on a bike is about the little things or one big thing freedom..............

I really can't think of any one reason that I ride. I think I like the open handed comradory that comes with it. Kind of like how skateboarding used to be...

                            Plus it's just plain fun.
