  • Hey! Just bought an XS Eleven.

I saw a fully dressed XS eleven at shop, asked the guy about it and one thing lead to another....

For $300 I bought what I believe is an 81 XS1100 fully dressed, trunk, bags, vetter fairing with the space for a radio, speakers the whole 9 yards.

The guy stated that the battery was dead and if I put a new battery in it, it would run. Its got about 30k miles on it and needs some serious cleaning (its been outside for quite some time). It does have a current tag and inspection sticker.

I'm sure getting this back in shape is gonna be a blast. Feel free to throw me some pointers as this will be my first restoration project.... ever.

Awesome. Great deal too. The fairing and bags are probably worth that alone.

Much nicer than saying, "This thread is worthless without pictures." Don't want to bite the newbies.

Ozmodius has got 5 posts, fair game?!

                  So is it a special?
                  No pics?
The 81's have a few things uniqe to em and the XJ.
One thing that can be hard to find is the plastic side covers, 81's only one with a "check" emblem on em. I've been watching for some off and on for awhile but only ones I've seen were out of my meger price range but not in any hurry as there's two other XSes in line before I will get to it.

                    Hi Oz & welcome,
don't let yourself be bullied by those voyeurs whining for photos.
I got more posts than 5 & have never posted a photo because I'd have to set up a place to send them to where I could post a link to so folks could see 'em and that's more hassle than I want to deal with.
So go buy that battery & see if it starts, eh?

                      I'll post pic's this weekend.

Question ... did they have them fully dressed for all years?

No, and the "Special" version didn't come out until the model's second year. However according to Bob Jones's history they were designed as a be-everything-Goldwing contender. I believe any fairings were aftermarket.

                            Hey Ozmo,

Great find there!! Now, if you'll go to the MISC forum scrolling down from the MAIN FORUM PAGE, you'll find a few threads, like what to look for in a neglected XS that'll give you lots of things to check over to make it roadworthy.

ALso, there's a thread about the serial numbers, so you can find yours on the steering neck or right lower engine case under carbs, right of starter, and you can find out what model/style you have, and whether it really is an 81 or an 80 that was registered late!?

Welcome, please take some time to read thru the tech tips, a lot of questions will be answered before you ask them, and then searches work well in the forums for other items, but don't be afraid of asking questions.....but beware of bites from MRO and PROM if it's something that is covered in the tech tips!
