Today had to go back and forth to San Jose a couple times.
Nice day but very few bikes out. Did see four Harleys and three were gals. All waved.

Ok, .... I confess ..... I'm a wave-a-holic. I wave at everything on two wheels (when not clutching) ... don't even care who waves back .... actually, just the other day, I caught myself waving at a group of bikers out of the window of my Jeep. I have waved while opening and closing my gate as it is on the Hwy .... I have even waived at a pretty girl who was walking by the street where I was riding .... could this indicate that I might have a problem?

The Harley girls seen on TV and in Harley ads... or the toothless ones that you see on the backs of the bikes.
One must always be careful what one wishes for.
You should want a woman that admires you for the stud that you are, not the stud that you/she thinks a Harley makes you.

Hi Wiz,
I'd say a Harley is contra-indicated for attracting the ladies. Every woman worth knowing knows that Harley riders usually have gender identity problems.
What you need is a sidecar. They are chick magnets. Attaching one to your bike upgrades your status (in the lady's eye anyway) from a scary biker to a friendly eccentric. And you can take her to places of popular entertainment with her wearing her pretty dress rather than blue jeans.

Sage advice, Promster, much appreciated, .... here in Temec, I guess our Harley girls pretty much run the whole range of types, I only go to one bike joint so I'm not too well versed in Harley girls (or anything else, for that matter) ... that's what I 've observed .... seems like greater numbers of hanger-on-ers would offer more options, thus a better chance of success.......... I'm also pretty sure it wouldn't surprise some, but I don't find that the admiration of a femaie is either a primary or even a necessary consideration .... just the willingness to be there .... sometimes .... would suffice .... that's about the most an tired old dog like me could hope for

I probably wave more than I should too. I catch myself in my truck sticking my hand out at other bikers. They always look at me like I'm insane... the girls always wave back though... not a bad thing I guess.

I ride with a guy who is a total ham-fister and never waves at anyone so I try to stay in front of him just to save face, then always give him hell for it later.

Here in Lake Co. most riders wave, Harleys, sportbikes and old bikes like ours, even dual-sport guys. Snobbiest seem to be Gold Wingers but they usually wave too. Everyone waits until the last second though. The style of wave varies each season. Right now it's the hand parallel to the direction of travel at a slight angle below the handgrips. Only guys who don't wave are the ones with beanie helmets and apehangers though one waved at me the other day...a first. Everyone waves on rainy days (except the apes).

Ohio has friendly riders, here in the Dayton area, the salute is a low left hand wave or the peace sign down low...

Same as Papa Gino,here in Cincinnati we usually(those who wave) give a lower left hand and at times ya get wore out doing it on warm sunday ride.......90% do it around here regardless of your ride.Even on interstates I have been waved to if I look like a road rig from other road bikes in all the states I have been in.

I'll third that, living in the same general vicinity as the previous two, I almost always get return waves. I try to wave at pretty much everybody on 2 wheels (sometimes I see them too late cause some maroon in a cage is taking up the lion's share of my attention), but I try to always wave..and (for the sake of redundancy) get pretty good returns.

However...
Don't know why anyone would be surprised with the lack of response from Hardley riders, most everyone knows that when riding a Hardley you gotta keep both hands firmly gripped to the bars to avoid ejection from XSive vibration. Mind you, that in itself would provide for pretty good wave action in the time between sitting on the bike and landing on the ground !

i try to wave all the time, but sometimes there are so many bikes on the road i can't keep up.
