  • Snobbish MC riders

Have you noticed lately, or is it just me?

No one gives you the left fist in the air anymore,,AKA, Motorcycle power.. Hell you don't even get a low five anymore.

I've rode Harley's, Honda's, Suzuki's and Yamaha's, even one Kawasaki. All street Bikes. While I'll admit that I was snobby some times while riding the Harley's, (especially when riding with other Harley riders) I am usually very "wavey" with any other biker. Note, I didn't own a car until I was 26, when I inherited a child and wife package..lol. I am now 51....

I find it very amusing that other Jap wanna be Harley's, i.e., metric v-twins have there noses stuck up in the air... won't wave for sh*&.

And lately even the Crotch rocket rider got there noses in the air,, not even a nod when pulling up side by side..

As far as I am concerned, the brotherhood of Bikers is in a sorry state of affairs.

    Easy Bro's
If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself..

Must have something to do with where you live in the U.S. Around here it doesn't matter what you ride, 98% of riders will at least give a low 5 wave.

The harley boys are the same here .I even had a biker chick snub me on a harley.I started to laugh when she did and the vehicle beside me did the same but I think they were laughing with me . Oh well I wave when I pass another biker if they don't that's too bad for them maybe someone will wave at them when they are stranded on the side of the road too!

Yeah, has to be where you live. I am in the mountains between I81 and I64 on 311 and bikes are throuh here by the hundreds, well better than 1000 yesterday and most all wave except for a few Beamers and some crotch rockets. Hell they even wave when I am in the yard working. This is a very popular route and we have the only resturaount between Roanoke, Va and White Sulphur Springs ,WV , a distance of 75 miles and are midway between the two and the two interstates. The XS gets plenty of attention when it is at the end of the driveway.

I generally wave to everyone and usually they wave back regarless of what brand they're on.
I have found that lately I'm tired of waving and will generally just return a wave initiated by the other rider. Eveb then I pretend I didn't see the wave and just ride on.
          Maybe it's the changing weather.

yeah when we were at the tahoe rally, and we were maybe 20 bikes strong, everyonethat went by us waved, including hardleys, i think the shear numbers spoke volumes.

it's all in the head, sick in the head.

This is interesting to me since I just recently started riding after a few years off. I wave at everyone unless it is a 4 lane road and separated by 4 to 5 lanes and cars between, Or if I am in a turn. The ones I do not usually get a wave back are young people on crotch rockets, some Harley riders, and I usually acknowledge dual purpose bikes as well. I was never sure if there were any protocalls for who and who not to acknowledge.

                Sometimes I wave sometimes I don't.
It doesn't mean I'm being ignorant to you or anyone else. Sometimes there is a safety factor, sometimes I'm just in my own space and don't even see you. But whenever I see a bike on the side of the road I stop and check. There used to be small amounts of bikes on the road and you used to know just about everyone but now everyone has a bike and they all want to get pissed if you don't wave.
When ever I'm in a pack I never wave, it's a safety thing for me. Anyway wave or nor not ride safe and arrive alive.

I almost always wave, and always wave back if the other ride waves first. I get a return wave most of the time. I also will wave at scooter riders. Do draw the line at mopeds though. I figure the scooter riders face the same hazards we do on a regular bike. They almost always seem plesantly supreised to be waved at. It is annoying when beyond a shadow of a doubt that the other rider saw you and they just ignore you. With all the "nannys" out there trying to regulate our lives we need to stcik together or we might just not have to worry about waving anymore. If think it could never happen to us ,just ask the tobacco companies.

Unless I'm working the clutch lever I low 5 everyone even Harley riders but Harley and Harley look a like riders rarely low 5 back. I would guess that if the Harley riders are removed from the numbers I would see a low 5 or 2 or 3 finger rise on the clutch hand at least 90% of the time. A better response can be obtained from Harley riders with a simple nod. Around here the comradely seems to be pretty healthy.

I wave to every rider I meet. I almost always get a wave back.

So why do I feel like the village idiot when they don't?

I wave to every rider no matter what. I get about 85% back locally. But a couple months back i was riding up I39 in wisconsin and a pack of rockets caught up to me ( I was going 85 ) slowed down for a brief second and took off about as quick. Not sure if the slow down was to mean something or not. But on the way home I meet a large pack of harley riders everyone of the nodded or show some acknowagement. At least none of them were the bird! They let me ride with then for at least 60 miles. Some even came over to check my bike out while I was pumping gas. Think the skulls had something to do with it.

I wave most of the time, but other times I may be concentrating on what I'm doing or traffic. A lot of the time I give the nod if I'm not in the mood to wave. At Laconia Bike Week this year there were so many bikes around that the closer I got to Laconia the less I waved because otherwise my hand would never be on the left grip!

Latest trend I see is the lazy wave where the hand stays on the grip but the four fingers are raised.

I wouldn't put much stock in waving or not waving. It's still about riding your own ride. The ones that get me are the ones that don't even give you a look or acknowledgement. Makes me wonder if they're being snobbish or if they're on a rental and don't know better.

                            THE BIG WAVE

I defantly know what you mean, there are lots of riders who dont bother any more. This last week was Bikes Blues & BBQ in Fayetteville Arkansas, there were so many riders that most people stopped waving to one another. As I rode into town it was so thick with bikes that it was impossible to wave to everyone and manuver the traffic.

I may attach a spring to a bar-end and put a glove on it so that it waves (like a bobblehead). That way I can wave to everyone and still maintain perfect control of the bike.
