    Hi Maximan,
what's all this horse manure about Canadians getting free medical care?
I am a Canadian. If I get sick I go see my doctor and if I need an operation I go to the hospital. And do these people bill me?
No they don't. But is it free? No f**king way. All the medical staff are paid, through various boards and cut-outs, by the Government. The Government has no money, it's my money, gathered through taxes on this, that and the other. So my medical care ain't free, it's pre-paid by me and by millions like me.

      Sinister Meatloaf.

      "sucks being a lefty"
Not so, Meatloaf, all the great men in History were left-handed. Ghengis Khan, Leonardo Da Vinci, Rasputin, Hitler and now you and me. (Us lefties never ever mention Gerald Ford)
I note the firearms you list are all pumps or levers or break actions because bolts are next to impossible for a leftie to operate. Except for the Remington Fireball pistol! Righties have to switch hands to reload it and you don't. But even with a pump or lever dontcha hate it when those ejected cases go flying past your nose?
Now what really sucks is being, like myself, left-handed and right-eyed. I gotta shoot right-handed or I can't hit nothin'

See and I'm right handed, left eye dominant!

        Go figure.

I passed the Canadian Armed Forces (accuracy) test for full automatic first (and only) time I fired a C7 on full auto...

          Black and White

I own guns and enjoy the right to do so.... however, I don't think I should have the right to own the same guns as the military. Ie. full auto devastation-type.

Whenever I hear about the govt. wanting to "ban guns" it seems to be certain types of guns, not all guns. The protest against it is always, "You can't take my guns, it is my right to own them."

          The poll should be:

          * No one should be able to own a gun
          * Certain military-type guns should be banned from the general public
          * I have the right to own any kind of gun I want
          * My tank is parked in my front yard

I just think this debate usually turns black and white, all guns vs. no guns, when the reality is about what types of guns should be in general circulation among the average citizen gun enthusiast.

But me, the pro-regulation person, would make the argument that if the second amendment was intended as a stop-gap on tyranny, then there should be no restrictions on what type and how much weaponry one can possess. It does state "well regulated militia" so the idea that there can be no regulations is a mis-reading of the amendment.

And to those say that they don't want government interferrence in their life I ask this: if you don't want to be on any lists then does that mean that you: don't pay taxes, don't register your car, drive without a driver's license, drive on a turnpike without paying tolls? The fact is that if you live in a society you have to submit to some kind of ruling authority. We reap the benefits for doing so. We have the most powerful military to protect us. The Fed manages the most powerful economy on earth. We have a highway system that is a modern marvel.

On question: What's the difference between driving an unregistered vehicle without a driver's license and walking around with a concealed weapon without a permit? If you're against lists and regulations would you do both?

IMOH not a heck of a lot. They are both lethal weapons and although have proved to be sources of benefit and enjoyment they have also contributed to much anquish and despair. With anything of this type a certain degree of knowledge and respect should be had in the application of their respective uses. Did I miss the term "common sense" Most laws and regulations are re-active in nature and unfortunately come about due to the "recklessness" of individuals. (bad apples)

Actually the only time you need a drivers license is if you get pulled-over for driving stupid. If you didn't have a license or registration but one of your children needed to get to the hospital would you drive them there anyway?
I don't walk around carrying a gun as a habit but if for some reason I had to go someplace I felt my life or my familys life would be in danger I would be sure I could defend my/ourselves. I would try to avoid it first.
I'm also not necessicarily against government regulation (yet). It's the lobbyest/zealots that you have to keep an eye on. They pay/coerce the politicians to follow their agenda. They are the ones that are trying to infringe on my rights

So much..... all most correct info (both sides)
The jury is out for absolute proof that socialism instituted into a modern industrial/post industrial nation will ruin it, BUT by any objective standard it has not worked in the past for the greater good for the most people in a country.

Russia could not make it work and it collapsed in on it's self. China with such a long history has turned to a limited form of capitalism. Never in it's history has any change helped more of it's citizens rise above mere existence and starvation.

History shows that socialism and communism have killed more of there own citizens than any war. The problem is that when a government reaches a certain level of control over all aspects of a society it's leaders are de-facto dictators and the citizens have no “rights”. Human nature has not evolved to the point that our leaders will act in the best interests of it's citizens. When was the last year that a politician has not been caught in a corruption scandal in any “free” nation (Canada INCLUDED). Look at the political polarization here between Dems/Republicans.

Who would want a Bush or Clinton running the US with that kind of power? Canada and Mexico will become mere client states if it comes to pass as the US would truly "for the greater good" subvert them. With that kind of power who could stand in there way?

                  Sound wacko?

or one could look at the Scandinavian countries. Those guys seem to live long and prosper with their Socialist governments.

                        Hey MRO,

The town I have my business in is planning a new Noise Control by-law that wants to prohibit, among other things, the use of a horn, whistle, alarm, bell, gong, etc. except as part of a religious service; detonation of explosives, operation of an air conditioner, loud stero systems, and squealing tires. In addition they want to restrict the hours of use of construction equipment, power and hand tools, opertaion of dirt bikes, snowmobiles as well as "screaming and yelling" in residential areas, between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. They go on to say that "Use of hammers, saws, lawnmowers and power tools would only be permitted between 7 a.m. and 9.p.m. in residential areas Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and banned altogether on Sundays and holidays.

And this is in "free" Canada?

Holy crap, I must be writing too long, Fredintoon and olebiker replied before me.

                                Scandinavian countries

Can not compare to either the US or Canada.

Have a total population less than California and North Sea oil that props up there governments. At one time they were similar to Japan in that the racial make up of there countries had no large minority groups. That has changed some and the back lash has been very stringent anti-emigration laws. Unrest is slowly brewing there too, both economical and racial. If the US and Canada had such emigration laws we would be called racists and worse.

                                mro

basic flaw of socialism and communism is that human nature is to take the path of least resistance and when there is no reward for effort to improve ones situation, the effort is abandoned. As an sorta lame example, you have a factory or large office with one hundred workers. If you are capable of doing double the work in the same situation as the guy next to you who is the average worker you but you will not receive any more compensation what will you do? What happens when that is extended to a whole country? (ever notice how efficient your local DMV workers are?)
