  • E-bay full fairing

Just curious to know if the fairing I just bough on eBay was being sold by someone on this forum. It is made for the 750 so I will hope that I can make it fit my 791100. Has the screen, mounting brackets, radio, speakers and lighting that is listed as all working. I got it for 53 USD so it appears to be a good deal. It's a pafico classic model.
Anyone have any experence with these ?

You will need the mounting bracket for the XS1100 standard. The bracket that is with the fairing probably WILL NOT work correctly on your bike. IIRC, the Pacifico Classic used the same mounts as the Vetter.

Bracket for the XS 1100 has a 3-point mount; each down tube has a mount and the top of the mount bolts to existing holes in frame. The differences in mounts have to do with the placement of the down tube sections. I suspect the tubes on the XS 1100 are a bit larger and a bit wider than the 750. Top mount could probably be re-drilled or modified to fit, but bending / modifying the down tube mounts is a lot more work. Not impossible, but a lot of work. You would be best off finding a mount designed for the 1100.

The Pacifico and Vetter mounts, at least the ones I have seen, are not the same. There was a kit available to adapt a Vetter to the Pacifico mount, but the company that made these went out of business after a fire in their shop. Have not seen a Pacifico Classic, so don't know about that specific mount, but would be very surprised if it was the same as the Vetter. The Pacifico and Vetter mounts used the same frame attachment points, but the part where the fairing bolts to the mount is different. You need to get a Pacifico mount; a Vetter mount would have to be adapted to put the Pacifico fairing on it. Again, adaption is not impossible, but would take extra work.

Ya .. the other option is to just make my own mount brackets from scratch but an idea of what they look like would be good. i will see what I get when it arrives. i am guessing that the fairing it's self will fit as they are likely all the same and not model specific ... i hope.

            fairing

Could you post a picture of the fairing, maybe one of us have one on our bike already and could post some pictures of our mounts and some measurements so you can build your own.

That fairing is not the same as mine, but here are some pictures of my mount maybe you can make out enough to see how to build one for yourself. Does your 1100 have the same attachment points on the frame? I'll try to draw it out on paper with the measurements this weekend and post the scan.

From the Photo, the Pacifico has a SHORTER distance on the fairing mount bolts. IIRC the Windjammer is almost 9" between mount holes for the fairing. My guess is if you can get one of the '78 fairing mounts, it could be modified with little problems.
If you have a welder, you can use angle iron for the fairing mount, and 1/4" flat stock to make the angle for the frame mount.

My frame does have the holes at the top of the up tubes. I however have never mounted one of these full sized fairings and have never even seen hardware for the job. That makes in difficult to picture in my mind how it is done. From what I can make out in the photos from wa407mpp the bottom of the fairing is in line with those mounting holes? I don't know what I'm looking at in the other photos so it will be the upper front mounting that I have no idea about. It is coming with hardware so i will likely have a much better idea when i see it.

                      Rob,
The hardware will probably mount to the frame with hose clamps. That was the "fit anything" way of doing it.
The mount holes on the frame need a slot about 3/4" long for the mount. If someone can draw one up, you'll have a good idea of how it's supposed to mount. The bottom of the fairing should be about 1" ABOVE the mount holes.

Correct but this fairing came off an XS750 so it may not be big enough or may need some mods.

                            fairing mount.

The fairing mount for my bike is two piece the lower half is H shaped with a straight brace that bolts to the down tubes, the top mount is an H with the brace in a U shape and bolts to the stearing head tube by way of a goose neck, the only hose clamps are attaching the goose neck to the U brace. The fairing is clamped between them. I think this is why my fairing has never cracked. I try to make a measured drawing this weekend ,or better yet maybe someone else has one of these mounts laying around and can post some pictures of it along side of a tape measure. I think this mount style would work with Windjammers and other fairing as well and would be a big improvement because it is so solid and was made to bolt on right from the factory.
