    She

    OK I promise I won't lecture you.......

    just think about this though......
There are two old (be careful) Kiss songs that I have always connected with my motorcycle. If you have noticed I am very careful on my ride. I take all the classes I can so I can stay as on top of the game as possible. While some may think that is great.... I do it for a slightly different reason. And... she really loves anything above 7000 RPM...... My reason for being so careful is odd to say the least. Billy thinks I'm nuts: I am so worried about hurting her that I don't take her beyond my own limits. But my limits aren't where the trouble would start. It's always something else that jumps out and bites your a$$. You can't control the rest of the world around you..... ok that being said.... sorry I tried not to lecture you. If you had.... say.... 20 bikes riding along with you, at least you'd have backup in case something happened.

so back to your regularly scheduled response... If you are crazy... so am I

    She walks by moonlight
    No one really knows
    Enchanted starlight
    Never goin' home
I know she's strolling down, goin'
    Everybody knows she's so good

and number two on the list is:

I remember the times I was lonely without her
Now she's mine and I spend my time dreamin' about her
Love her all I can and try to understand
The things that make her glad
The things that make her sad
I'm a lucky guy, I hardly ever cry
And when the world looks bad
    She's never ever sad
(this part is because Tod knows what I am saying too)
She's so easy to please and it doesn't take money, no, no
We can have a good time when the skies aren't sunny

that just about sums it all up.... for me at least

Heck no! That's what those crotch rocket riders do...

        Ummmm... oops...
Okay... SOME of those crotch rocket riders...

We know you're not dumb, stupid or anything along those lines... and I know you don't weave at 120mph (maybe 119mph )...
I think my main concern came after someone who could actually keep up with you pointed out your wobbly backend... I mean... the bike's wobbly backend... Get that thing to the gym and firm it up and I'll leave you alone... sort of... maybe... doubt it... but it's worth a shot...

hey hobby man I can relate

i was 19 when i bought my 11, brand new back in 1978
I also drove crazy, after all, it was the fastest bike on the road that year.
i would go 90 and a hundred all the time

now that i look back, I'm lucky to be alive now

with some of the things i did with that bike.

if your going to be crazy, at least do it in the daylight

            good luck

!estas loco chavo! yes you're crazy, anyone who rides a motorcycle is at least a little bit crazy. you're luck you didn't wind up on cops or real tv or something. I agree, keep it in the light if you have to go that fast. in the dark you'll hit the cow before you see the cow.

                  Challenges..

come from the strangest places. Like from someone who claims to have had many bikes, but then says he is to inexperienced to be able to turn the petcocks to reserve while in motion or he would crash?????

As far a crazy, well I think that's a matter of perception, but then if that's crazy you can relish in the company of other crazies here. LOL

                    Hey Hobbyman,
Glad the night in question turned out such that you could be posting this!
I agree with most. If ya gotta go fast, and sometimes ya just gotta, do it in the daytime. If ya wanna go as fast as the bike will go, do it on a track.
If you have any similar experiences to mine, you will find that you will continue to take these kind of risks... until you have kids.
I used to do tons more stupid stuff, not on motorcycles but on mountain bikes, in canoes, during rock climbs, etc. My wife never tried to slow me down, but when my daughter was born, I thought, "If anything happens to me now, I don't get to see her grow up, and she doesn't get to have a dad." THAT slowed my a$$ down pretty quick!
I think those who are prone to adreniline rushes have to come up with their own reasons to say "enough" when confronting their lunacy!

                    Ride Fast...But Smart!

I've just got two things to say about this:
                      1. Glad you are alright and you've got the bike put together well enough to handle speed.

                      2. I suggest deleting any admission of guilt and never post such admissions again...you could just say "I went to a privately owned roadway" instead of stating you went through street lights, etc.

Btw, this is no admission of guilt on my part

The problem with pushin a C-note or past it on a bike is knowin what to do when things go wrong. Experience is one of the only things that can teach ya. I can tell you what to do if you lose a tire at speed, but havin it happen to you is the ultimate teacher and hopefully you survive it. Speed is an addiction.I am pushin just a smidge over the 1/2 century mark , an I still enjoy/need the rush of sailing over asphalt at speeds most people people think is crazy. Now, I don't do this at night or in big traffic. I have seen what can happen. I have the same problem when on the water (but my rig ain't gonna get anywhere close to 100mph) Motorcycles are an inherantly dangerous mode of tranportation but we all accept that when we saddle up. Statistics prove who gets hurt most on bikes, new bikes with young drivers, new bikes with old drivers who have little seat time. Nuff preachin. Save your high speed runs for daylight on empty roads. Asphalt rash is a mean teacher who cuts little slack.

                            Not far enough

They don't make headlights yet that are bright enough for a C note speed, especially on an XS11 with not enough power to run the bright ones. By the time you see the problem at that speed, you will run into it about the time you can lose only about 20 MPH. If you hit something at 80 MPH, you might as well just have closed your eyes and applied more throttle. Results would be the same.

                              hey hobbyman,

you are evaluated based on typical observations from what i percieve to be typical men making these assumptions, because of the years they have on this earth, they appear steller.

not to say our faternity here is something to be scoffed at, but a product of experience and united by this bike, i personally find you to be precocious, and don't fall in any catagory, you seem to be able to capture everone's attention and keep them coming back for more, evidenced by the threads you create and the interest in which they manifest.

you are able to tango with middle ages men at there peak of reason, and thinking, my hats off.

that said, you can sound board your experiences on your cruise missile anytime and you write like a true author, but, you are your own man and you know your limits, should you falter and get up close and personal with asphalt or what ever, you will conjure way to prevent it the next time, you may be a survivor, only time will tell, my guess you are and i congratulate you on that, as for typical, men they have to get old to know this.
