  • Other hobbies?

OK, so I consider XS ownership a hobby. If all you had to do was ride it, life would be boring. My other two preoccupations are working on my (old) house, and home theater. HT is fun all the time, working on the house is not always fun. I have learned the following (think Zen):
    Old house, new motorcycle: Bliss
    Old motorcycle, new house: Bliss
Old house, old motorcycle: Living Hell
Escaping both the house and the XS in a 7.1 channel YAMAHA powered home theater: Nirvana
Time to go fire up a LaserDisc...

1979 SF: Millennium Falcon, until this Saturday

      hobbies abound here

Just like so many others here.......

Radio Control......... Cars and trucks are fun.... wreck and flip em over and go..... airplanes are a bit^%..... but, I have more fun designing and building from just scrap material laying around...... they fly quite well but I don't (know what I mean?)

Real airplanes....... having been a civilian aviation brat my whole life leading up to adulthood and then working on them since I was 18 / 3-military and 45-civilian / I now have 48 airframes under my belt and only military certifications to show for it. Everywhere I have ever worked it was only 50 cents to a buck higher wages to have A&P certification, so why bother? Why make a hobby more like a real job?

Then of course we have the ever addictive computer...... That hobby I did make a job, but then again why not?

Everyone on here has at least one of those habits.....errrr hobbies!

I have so many different things going on that sometimes I wonder if I will ever get any of them done.

I've been building a CNC router table to make boards for my other hobby, circuit design. I have a dozen or so different gadgets in the near-completed design phase and am eager to get them built and tested. A couple are even XS related.

I also enjoy website design, and hope to complete a moderization/upgrade to this site soon. It's been lot of work, but I think it will be recieved favorably all around. They'll be a lot of new features, and content will be easier than ever to add. Not to mention updated forums, and an end to all the spambots.

I've also been working on restoring my house...but I don't care much for that. More a necessity than a desire...

On top of all that, I spend way too much time on my computer as well.

This is my hobby, but it's now a bit difficult to practice I won't relate how my first efforts went

Other than fiddling with the xs, there's hobby electronics, a bit of reading and too much time online.
          And looking at cuties too

My other passions/aggravations would hafta be my '75 Power Wagon (bought new) and the boat. It is getting to be boat season again. The PW has been a good friend, most of the time. PW pulls about 8mpg on a good day, I figured the boat gets 'bout 3-4mpg at cruise and 2mpg with the throttle nailed. Sometimes I wonder why everything I like takes gas and insurance.

My other favorite pasttime is sleeping. I just don't have enough time for it though. I get to sleep 9:30am to about 2pm then again at 6, 7 or 8 pm until 10:20pm.

                  hobbies

My obsessions...errr... I mean Hobbies...are fixing old broken stuff(my cars, my motorcycles, my pinball machine, my ego) and oil paintingwww.kcloerts.blogspot.com I don't consider school a hobby as it's more like work than my actual job. After I graduate I'll hopefully have more time for hobbies, but I doubt it.

                    Hobbies..???

                    Have a few

                    First and foremost Fly Fishing
Could have bought another house here in CA CA land for what I've spent fishing over the years. Way I do it is a little more like hunting than what people normally think of fishing and the destinations have been spectacular.

Actually my XS’es and fishing are quite a bit more than hobbies,
one might call em an addiction

Also consider myself a tinker'er. Have made a few "inventions" and have even completed a few prototypes. Jury is still out on weither I will try to market em or if they would be accepted if I did.

The boat is a Wilderness 30, with a new Yanmar 9HP diesel I just installed. Winter in CA is the rainy season. As I only have a carport, and NOT a garage, I will be working the the '78 as time allows. Engine is now on a stand, so I can start to pull it down for a rebuild.

The word hobby implies Spare Time. That is in short supply so I'll list what I like to do when I have time (very rare).

First the XS, not a hobby, but an addiction, man I love that thing, the roar of the pipe, the feel of acceleration and the curve of the highway are a drug, but the good kind (Prozac with an engine).

I like anything that involves wrenches, but only when it's for fun, not cause it's broke and I need to drive/ride it to work (where all my time goes).

I like to write and have actually written a novel (just can't get the damn thing published...).

Music, I make noises with a Bass Guitar and most of the time, they are the right noises. I also play the saxophone, but not nearly as often as I'd like. As far as listening to music, that's another drug...

I like making flowers grow, but that takes LOTS of time. Right now, the flower bed needs weeding and more planting, the lawn has gone to seed and the back yard still has Lab poop all over it.

Kayaking is my newest want to do. We did that last year in Florida and I am now shopping for a decent Kayak. (Can't find one that will strap to the Battle Cruiser's luggage rack though)
                        Papa Gino

79 and something XS 1100 Special "Battle Cruiser"
                        78 XT 500 "Old Shaky"
                        02 Kawasaki Concours "Connie"

I'm into boats as well. My dad has some pretty cool vintage boats that I get roped into working on.
1939 17' Chris Craft dual cockpit, Chris Craft in line six

1904 25' Chas. H. Seabury Consolidated Launch, Consolidated Speedway Gas Engine.

                          1938 45' Peterson cruiser

The Speedway engine is pretty amazing. Most internal combustion engines were burning naptha at the time. It's not exactly high performance:
                          2 cylinder
                          total loss drip lubrication
                          brass con rod bearings
                          200+ cu. in.
                          900 RPM redline
                          850 pounds and 7 1/2 horsepower!

It came with a model T marine engine from a later "upgrade".
I have a '59 Chrysler Crown flathead six in my garage that I'm repairing for my dad. Cast iron Zenith carb.

I am a graphic artist by trade. I used to paint and own an art gallery many years ago, but as a hobby, I now channel my creative needs thru woodworking.

Firearms and IDPA are also a big "hobby" of mine.
