when I lived it texas, I remember very specifically a storm that brought hail up to softball size. After those storms is great time to go buy brand new cars for around $7000.

Well, if you want a new car, nows the time to buy. My dad went down to Five star Ford where are excursion is. Now for sure it may be totaled. THe whole thing is going to need repainting. They said that the only way to repair it is to weld onto the dents and pull them out. Then repaint it. That makes us all POd because the called a week ago to say that they were working on it. It was supposed to be in the shop. My Dad told me that it hasn't even moved yet. THis means a second insurace claim

Saw it on the news, H-man .... awful, awful, destructive sh-t hail is. We used to get a lot in Colo Spgs when I lived there. One good hail storm almost completely fueled the glass companies for the up comming year.

One year, right after Mt. St. Helens went off, I watched from inside my auto parts store as 3/4" hail demolished an El Dorado parked out front that I had bought a week earlier. Don't even try to go out in it either!! The Eldo looked like someone had worked it over with a ball peen hammer. XS 11 was in the bay, fortunately.

          lost my post

          here is attempt 2:

guys I am glad you all are ok:
john & family, hobbyman and family, tod and family

I was thinking of ya'll XSives while I was East of Waco Fri. night heading into it.... I saw this huge ugly front and decided the best way, since I couldn't skirt it was to punch through the middle. at 20 plus miles out of Waco I was dry.... within 10 miles I was soaked and the bike had started to balk at being that wet. The rain was all sideways and I finally found a point to pull over and get my gear on. No lights anywhere and it is hard to put all that stuff on without seeing anything. Finally at where 84 and 31 come together I saw a building with lights and a truck parked out front(gravel hauler 18 wheel) and decided that'd be the spot. ended up pushing her around to the down wind side of the truck and sat her outta the rain slightly under the trailer.

She sat for about 20 minutes before she would start back up. That's the first time rain ever stopped her. She might have been ok had I not had to stop..... it started stinging pretty bad. Besides that the rain was darn cold. I kept looking for hail but there wasn't any. very lucky for me.

I got the rain gear on and smoked a couple cigarettes and she started up with just a little help.

Not sure why she started cutting out but I am thinking maybe there was enough rain to suck it up and clog the air filter... or maybe the one cracked coil finally had enough.

What do you guys think would have been the issue?

years ago i got caught ridin 110 miles from home
the sky opened up and rained hard for hours
i was going thru a slow section
my bike started to skip, i looked down and the area on top of the motor, where the spark plugs are, was full of water
and it of course was splashing around and shorting out the plug wires, but once i got some speed going, it blew the water out of the way

              The hail you say

Yep. I remember when I was in the 6th grade growing up in Lubbock: that spring, every Friday for about six weeks we had tornado alerts. One afternoon we had been let out of school and sent home because of an alert.

My dad, having been stormed out of work was home too. We had the TV on watching the news, and they were reporting a funnel cloud N.E. of town. Dad was watching an ominous looking cloud out of our kitchen window that faced south. “Hey kids, come here. I want to show you something. See those three smaller clouds hanging under the big cloud? Watch them.” The big cloud was an ugly blue-green-gray color. The smaller clouds started slowly circling each other and in a minute or so a “tit” started protruding downward out of that ugly upper cloud. “Grab your coats and hats, we’re getting’ outa here,” he declared, and off we went to engage in the survival sport of “dodge the twister” in our ’49 Dodge coupe

I still remember seeing that magnificent, awesome, perfectly shaped funnel towering over the nearby broadcast antenna of our local TV station. The next day Dad started plans for our back yard storm cellar.

Today, some fifty years later (damn!) as I watch “Storm Chasers” on the Weather Channel I think “Man! Ah missed mah callin’. Ah coulda been a Storm Chaser!” Besides the people, the thing I miss most about Texas is the thunderstorms: the towering cumulus clouds; the sudden drop in temperature after a hot muggy day; the smell of ozone in the air created by magnificent bolts of lightning followed by peals of thunder. Oh yeah, and the hail, of course.

Thunder storms and twisters are so exciting. It’s sure too bad they also destroy property and kill people.
I hope all who read this will be spared this unfortunate downside to a remarkable natural event.

Sorry to hear about your Town Car Hobbyman.

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
