"Now for an opinion that REALLY counts."

This site is great for weekend entertainment.
I get to make fun of people... and don't even have to get out of my chair to do it.
Come on... does it get any better than that?

Wiz... I thought the whole idea behind you livin' out in the desert was to get away from people.
"No phone, no lights no motorcars... not a single luxury..." Yes, it would be nice to have Marianne, too.
But think for a moment... If you had a social life, wouldn't there always be a bunch of "Gilligan"s popping in unexpectedly... ruining your seclusion and solitude?
At least here, I can interact with humanity when I choose.
And when I see people like TRBIG or Hobbyman pull into my "cyber-driveway" for a visit, I can reach out, and with the press of a button turn off the computer and pretend I'm not home.
There's a lot to be said for being an eccentric.

Even Superman had his "Fortress of Solitude" where he went to hide from humanity.
I'm perfectly content living my life as I choose it. If I want social contact on a Friday or Saturday night... I either come here... or go shopping and make rude comments at women in the freezer aisle of the local Safeway.
(Oh, don't tell me I'm the only one that does that!)

better turn off the computer, I am back now Don't think I havn't been watching you Pro. I get on here because I don't sleep any more. I need help occasionally too. As far as having a life..
no girlfriend or any of that buisness,
No money right now, hence no girlfriend (everything is tied up in motorcycles),
and when I need to get away, there are plenty of bikes to ride.

So if I stay on here.. "Parked" in your cyber driveway, will you stay away and pretend not to be here?

April Fool's Day... (Lest we forget)

Hobbyman, there's a lot to be said for not having a girlfriend. (Most of it unpleasant... ), but on the up-side... look at one's freedom of movement.
You can tinker in the garage all day(tinkle, too, if you wish), and there's no one to complain about it. No one to badger you with, "Let's go places and eat things".
(Sure, they're fun to look at, and they always smell nice... all bubble-gum and strawberry scented shampoo-ed, hair in pig-tails, wearing little Catholic School Girl uniforms and such...)
But do us all a favor...
If you ever stumble across a member of the opposite sex that'll agree to mate with you, please use a condom.

              Ahhh, TRBIG, there you are!
              Popping in unexpectedly as always.
Yes, you can park your ride here in my "cyber-driveway" all you wish... Just bring some "cyber-kitty litter" to soak up the oil stains. (Some of the other members are starting to complain.)

              XSRIK, I agree.
Walmart is no place to go "Women Watching", (much less "Women Shopping"!)

(Ya know... out of rare kindness... I left open an opportunity for someone to attack me, yet I had no takers... )
Are we all that "trivia-challenged" to not notice I had mispelled "Mary Ann" as Marianne?

              "Oh, the humanity!"
              What has become of us?

Wiz... I live far apart from society.
And I (and society) like it that way.

I am fed up with all of the girls in my area. You nailed it exactly. For them is all bubblegum and perfume. nothing real there. All they want to do is go the mall and spend money. I hope it isn't always like this.

                  "The sad truth..."

Oh, it's always like that... and it gets better...
As they age, bubble gum causes dentures to click and the Strawberry Essence shampoo is replace by Grecian Formula #1, like my father used to use.
                  The end is inevitable.
No, Hobbyman, at your age, the girls in your area are to be cherished, for they won't stay like that for long.
You, young man, must revel in your youth and energy, before you become broken down and decrepit as I am now.
Females of your era are youthful, charming creatures... Naive and innocent of the big world, unable to resist the sly charms and greasy words of lecherous old men such as myself.
You need to grab one now, before I do.

Hobbyman... Take a break from bike building and go on a quick quest. Start at the local library.
There's a certain someone at mine who waives my late fees... She's always talking about a "Book Worm", "Hard Cover" versus "Soft Back" and such. (this is "Librarian slang" that shows you she's interested) She's always taking me to the reference section and showing me pictures in the medical manuals and such.
You, Sir, should browse the aisles for females same as one browses for books.
Stay away from the ones that are dog-eared from over-use... or have their spines broken. Stay with non-fiction, as fiction means they're bubble-headed, prone to unrealistic fantasy and dream-like expectaions.
Avoid the "Self-Help" section, for if they can't figure out their own problems, said problems will soon become yours.
DON'T GO INTO THE AREA MARKED FOR "WOMEN'S ISSUES" I can't stress this enough! (You won't like them, and they won't like you)
Yes, this method takes time... and doesn't provide quick dating results like hanging around outside the Free Clinic does for me, but there are less medical complications later, if you know what I mean.

                    cracked up to be ....

I don't understand why you would even want a girlfriend, H-man? Like some of the others are saying in this thread, they're not all they're cracked up to be .... AND .... judging by the amount of bikes you're workin' on all at once, you're already in XS11 heaven, aren't ya'? .... does it really get much better than that?

I think Prom, in his own inimitable fashion and with extrordinary pinache, is simply saying ... just find a girl to use for a while once in a while ... put your money in/on the scooters.

Amazing.. This thread has gone from people's lives to dating 101. I don't think the bikes in my garage would like it if I didn't spend at least 3 hrs out there every day. I know I don't have a life, but at least some of my friends come and hang out with me trying to figure out what I am doing. When I get the next two bikes done, I may take some time off. Right now I am polishing some valve covers by hand.
BTW: a lot of girls have been coming up to me recently, giving "compliments" about my bikes. Hm...

                        Ohh geez....

Here we go again... Leave the poor kid alone... He'll figure it out...
The way I look at it HobbyMan... you have a pretty decent head on your shoulders... stay away from the girls as long as you can so things don't get messed up... Love... infatuation... whatever it is at that time... can change things in both lives... Best to follow through with what plans you have and don't bother with the rest of it...
Love waits... infatuation gets you in trouble...
Stick with the bikes... everything else will fall into place...

                          "Use one for a while?"

I haven't used one for quite a while, but that's not the point. (I've abused a few, but never used. Just not gentlemanly)
As WildKat intoned... Given time, women will seek you out, Hobbyman. (They are curious creatures... attracted to shiney objects and human oddities)
Keep polishing your bikes, and just be yourself, and they will find you.
Better still... don't date in High School. Wait till college(Think... drunken frat parties!)You'll know if a female's a "keeper" or not... if she holds you steady while you're heaving beer and pizza over a balcony. (Females, by nature, are caring and compassionate)
Come to think of it... I met my ex at a party. She was one of three females crowded into the bathroom, making sure my head didn't submerge into the toilet.
(Hmmm, or were they trying to push it in?)
Either way, she was there, and that's what counted.

                                Just make certain it's ignorance...

Like they say, "Ignorance is temporary... stupidity is permanent."
With your intelligence level... stupid will drive you crazy after a short time...
and if they can't read the Yamaha in big letters on the side of your tank... it's either lack of observation (which is very possible)... or... well... you get the idea...

Man... that wasn't very nice of me... but I've seen lots of stupid... and it does have an impact on your sanity...
