Planet Earth is way past due for a major geologic/astronomical event on the par of the extenction of the dinosaurs. Even less, there is evidence that mankind was almost wiped out by a catistrophic volcanic eruption only 70,000 some odd years ago. The Aztex (or is it Mayan?) calander , which is largely considered the most accurate calander ever devised by Man, ends in the year 2012.

We have been blessed with an uncommonly stable environment for the past 2 or 3 hundred years, and it erritates me that political opportunist like Al Gore are useing a relativly minor event like a changing climate to grab political control over peoples activities.

My brothers and sisters of XS, I am 61 years of age. My father died when he was 62. I have attended memorials for friends younger than I. The year 2012 is only 5 years away. I hope to live that long just to see what the f@#k will happen! Anything past that I will consider gravy.

In the meantime rest assured that by riding your XS/XJ11s as often as possable you are doing your part to "Save The Planet!"

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
    I've been riding since 1959.

      • "I make no excuses for myself..."

        (I'm a bad liar, anyway.)
Prometheus, your stated indifference to the Japanese and all people who may suffer as the result of xsive global warming...
It's not like it's gonna happen over night.
Land o' Goshen...! Nothing's gonna get extreme for another thousand years or so. The people I currently mocked will be long dead, and I had nothing to do about it.
Most people, when they see the water moving up the beach 1/4 inch a year, would realize that... in 800 years, it's time to sell the house and move.
It's not gonna be like that last tsunami that killed thousands. Those people were taken completely by surprise... didn't even have time to call a realtor.
Tragic, yes, but I wasn't involved.
Out of a planet population of over six billion, do you know how many people die per day? Do I miss them? Should I mourn for them collectively? If I died, would people in Nepal shed a tear?

People live on the coast of Florida, build fine houses... just to watch hurricanes take them away. Now isn't that silly?
Hell, there's clowns here who build homes in the valley, knowing full well about every three years the place turns into a flood plain. I don't show pity for them, either?

I'm a realist. I worry very little about circumstances beyond my control, (or man's control) like Global Warming. (I'm only interested in the subject because so many people are making fools of themselves. And I say that... as most of the media loud-mouths are so ill-schooled on the subject that the concept of recurring Ice Ages has never crossed their minds. )
Yes, I believe in the concept of Global Warming, as does Maximan, for most people know, and understand, that the planet heats up once in a while.
And further, if I recall correctly from my school days... (the regular school, not the reform school), Wasn't I taught that the same gases that we're throwing into the atmosphere then, as now, were blocking the sun's radiation and the fear back then was Global Cooling?
As I've stated before, I'm more concerned about the next Magnetic Polar Shift. This too is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Has happened many times in earth's history, and has nothing to do with mankind building cities and huge metal skyscrapers, though I'm sure some people believe there's a connection. As soon as the lines of flux start waivering, I'm sure we'll be hearing from them, too.
Here's an interesting concept: If all the nations on the planet stopped, overnight, doing whatever it is that the experts say is causing Global Warming, would the warming trend continue?
        Of course it would.
Then the cry wouldn't be "Stop global warming", but"Oh no, we must have stopped too late."

As far as the way people debate issues... give me facts to mull over, not emotional appeals, crying and name calling. It didn't work when my wife tried, why should it have any effect on me now?

We will continue doing what we're doing because we love it and life is too easy - to the point where disease / public disorder / war and anyhting else I can't think of will all but wipe the population of the face of the Earth and survival will be the fittest and the strongest (that doesn't necessarily mean Arnie strong either).
By the way I wholly agree with Maximan - the Earth will be fine!! All these people saying we are screwing up the environment actually mean we are only screwing it up for us, when we're gone (and we've only been here for a blink of an eye galactically speaking) the planet will continue and (I don't want to say "recover") the next stage of life in it's existence will start.

Your absolutely correct. We should all embrace the realistic goal of defeating corporate America and its sinister plans to destroy our precious earth by allowing the people to rise up and fight this oppression and by Punishing anyone who disagrees.

So , I see, this discussion is back to hype.
It seems hype and innuendo is OK in this discussion as long as your side uses it, as seen in this reply to my post, but not if the other side sinks to that level.
What I stated, and what you responded to my remark, has absolutely no relationship to each other, aside from you placing it into the same post.
There are nut cases on both sides of the argument, no doubt.
But if their extreme statements are the only base on which we discuss this, I might as well stop wasting my time on your forum.
                          Whatever, Jürgen

If it's something that you cannot see the funny side of or that you are unwaveringly serious about, I would suggest a public forum is not the place to discuss it.

However, for my part if my remarks offended you - I apologise.

I didn't see any lines get drawn or anyone having chosen "Sides" to hype up. BUT, if you can't come on here without LOOKING for something to get offended by, then your quote of

(Except Maximan... but he's family and we have to love him! lol) If you see something that does offend you, read it again with a grain of salt, because it probably wasn't meant that way.
