You drank the water right out of the ground? Here in Texas, that is taking you life into your own hands, literally. There is only one place in Texas that I would do that. It is at the beginning of the San Marcos river where the water bubbles up from the ground.

actually right out of the river

but here all we do is dig a hole in the ground
usually about 12 to 20 feet
then put a pump in it and that feeds the house

My family used to own a camp on China Lake, Maine when I was a kid, and I know I drank more than my share of lake water. It is a spring fed lake, and it was also the main water supply for the Waterville area. You could see bottom at over 30 feet in depth. When I first moved here, one of my neighbors had taken me to Grapevine (Grapeslime) lake to go fishing. I was wearing white tennis shoes, and waded in up to my knees, and couldn't see my feet any more. Needless to say, I have never been in that lake again. Even the Kennebec, and Androsccogin river are nice and clean now that they haven't driven any logs down them in 30 years.

            Ice fishing

What a good excuse to get fupped duck. You know what's really fun... get going about 40 mph, and stomp on the park brake. When the car stops spinning, that's where you cut the hole, and build your bon fire.

Ice fishing on a lake by my home town has really wound down, heavy snow, and the fast approaching "house off" deadline has it down to just a few houses. 3 weeks ago, there were almost as many houses on the lake as there are in my city, and thats almost 1700 people. (figure 3 ppl per house, you do the math)

Makes me jealous seeing a pic like that, I havent had my permanent shack out since January 20th, damn school.

We Canucks feel your pain Willy! I promise I'm sending warmer air your way next week - they're calling for 40's here in Ontario!

I have a question for all the northern riders:

Here, they go bananas with the salt all winter long. There must be an inch thick layer (mixed with sand and gravel) of it piled on the side of the roads - until they get the street sweepers out ... whenever they get around to it.

So the question is, wait to ride? ride but wash the bike afterward? say screw it - it's 25 years old and rusty already? What do you all do?
Why thank you, yes it is old and no, I don't want a new one.

they go crazy with the sand and salt here too

well normally before the snow is all gone ,
the rain starts and washes the salt and sand away

the first few rides you have to be careful
because the salted areas are slippery

as far as washing the bike, a few times in the summer
                    but not in the spring
unless you count the go over before the first ride

Currently 32 deg. F here in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Rode the XJ to work for the 3rd time this week, can only ride when SWMBO and I don't commute together. Ride is 112 miles per day, about 56 miles each way. Normally I don't ride if the temp is below 32 deg F (above freezing and dry is my normal minimum) but the afternoons are so nice it is worth the colder morning ride. Course, those lowers help a lot. So does the hot beverage when I get to work.

Afternoon temps are in the 60 deg. F range, but there was fresh snow a couple days ago at about the 6 - 6.5K elevations, quite visable on the Mamm Range and Roan Plateau as I ride I-70 along the Colorado River about 5,700 foot elevation. Home (DeBeque, Colorado) is just under 5,000 foot elevation, Daffodils and Tulips are blooming, and so are the 2 Cherry trees. Mowed the lawn last night.

Pretty much took the last snowmobile ride of the season last Saturday, snow on south-facing slopes getting pretty marginal. Also have to do some work on the sled, chain case reverse gear has developed a skip, also have an upgraded roller secondary clutch coming from Vermont. Just put on a new ('06) big-pin primary clutch, one run on it, much smoother engagement than the old one. (Arctic Cat owners and most snowmobilers will recognize these terms.)

Trouble with to many hobbies, something always needs upgrading / repair.....

                              snow

There isn't anything on the ground here in arkansas, but last night it hit 28 and snowed for a good 4 hours. Very odd for april.
